A few months ago my doctor introduced me to these suppositories to help with bleeding that I sometimes experience.

In the past, I've used mesalamine suppositories for about a month, as well butyrate + glutathione suppositories and neither helped at all. Since using these (Wise Women Suppositories #2) 10 days ago, i've noticed I've gone to the bathroom less than usual and bowels are more formed than usual, and no blood. :)

They are not cheap, but purely holistic for a 12ct. Just thought i'd share.

All of the ingredients favor towards lowering oxidative sress, secreting mucilage or protecting it, helping more blood circulate to the veins and Sibby I'm not sure on this, but I remember reading about how Vitamin E is risky if it does not come from a natural source. I can't find too much information on their website, from what I read, they seem like a reputable source for natural supplements. I wonder if the Vitamin E source comes from the cocoa butter thats used in the suppositories.

some part of the benefit may be from vit-E. I think I would worry less about topical/rectal vit-E. the study above involved oral vit-E.

some natural sources of vit-E are supposed to be more absorbable. I am less clear that the natural/synthetic division would play out the same if the effect is topical. I guess it would eb good to have research on whether the effect was topical, or whether tissue was absorbing the vit-E.

Has anyone else tried this? I take canasa as a maintenance med and thought maybe would try this. Stereo how are you doing now with these? Still having success?

Somedude, I use one at night. If you've used suppositories before, I've never had any problems or issues with this one in particular.

Steve, for the life of me, I feel like I used Canasa suppositories (mesalamine white &blue box right?) Maybe I forgot the name.
With the new suppositories, I've been doing better, but I ran out about a week ago, ordering some more now...

I like the ingredients, they are alot more friendly than the mesalamines. And quite a deal too! When I was taking the canasa suppositories, a 30 day supply (of 30) used to run about $680 ouch!!

How did you come across these?

Oh wow, that is a lot of money. Is the reason for that amount have to do with type of insurance coverage? This summer my dad was in between jobs, and so our family was without insurance coverage for a month. Long story short, I had to buy a 15 day supply of Asacol for $115, was it?

My doctor recommended them a while back... I've searched for them in online stores unable to find them, and on their website wisewomanherbals.com, they don't list them. =/

Stereo yes white and blue box that would be Canasa. I pay 170.00 after what the unsurance covers. I asked the pharmacist what it would cost without insurance last time I picked picked up mine and she said almost 800.00. My doc said they are the only one in the game for suppositories that are made of mesalamine thats why they are expensive. I may try some of these natural ones before I run out of my canasa to give them a trial run. Heck even if I bought 3 boxes of 12 it would cost me a whole lot less than the Canasa which I only take like 2 to 3 times a week.

Stereo, yea I have lousy insurance... everything is out of pocket til I hit the $12,500 deductible - it really sucks!

Haha Somedude I just saw that!!

I just wanted to update and say I started on the suppositories again 3 nights ago, and by the 2nd night, trace of blood has been minimal, and I begin to have a bowel movement later in the day instead of right in the morning. I think i'll stick by these for a while.

Somedude, haha you just made me laugh...the high deductible is because I can't afford anything else... I am waiting for ObamaCare to kick in @ 2014....

How many are you using a week? They are still WAY cheaper than Canasa.

guess I am pretty spoiled, I get 2 boxes of Canasa for $40. My old insurance was $2 a box so I thought $40 was a lot.

Somedude did you try these yet? I am curious how you do with them. I pay 170.00 for a month of canasa but I only take 2 a week. I would save even more money if these work.

I am now using Vitamin E suppositories for ongoing maintenance after finishing the last of my Canasa. I read that these are great for UC/UP and GI thought it was a good idea. I am using Carlson brand "Natural Vitamin E" Suppositories. So far, so good.

Protocol thanks for posting about the carleson brand. I found them cheap and overstocked at one of my online supplement shops. I dont know what you are paying but these were the best price I found and probobly wont be this price long as they are overstocked priced. I plan on using these after my 3 months with vitamin e enemas. I then will go every other day with the enemas and will use these on the other day. I bought 6 boxes of them! Oh I payed 3.99 a box of 12. Here is the place I get them from. Hurry while they have them at this price.

For Amazon shoppers here is a 24-pack of the Vit E suppositories for $8 (free ship if you reach the magic $25 minimum). I ordered these a week ago so they should be here soon. Rectal meds are one of my colon's best friends.

Like InSoFla I have high ded. so I order Canasa from Canada for waaay less than the $600++ that Canasa costs in US. I think it's around $90 for 30 Canasa suppositories from Canada (I can't find my last order to look it up). Low or free shipping for them also.

I finished my Canasa and started these Vitamin E Supps from Amazon (Carlson brand) last week. I did a variety of searches on google prior to taking these and there is a great deal of information of these used successfully for UC/UP people.
