I was diagnosed with UC about
a 1-1/2 years ago after having some bleeding and a colonoscopy. The Dr put me on 3 lialda daily and 1 pkt of VSL#3 DS per day. Within 2-3 days all bleeding had stopped and I was feeling great. After a year of being problem free, I dropped down to a maintenance dose of 2 lialda per day and the VSL#3 when I remembered to take it. Unfortunately, I forgot more than I remembered. At the beginning of October, I had a follow up colonoscopy to see what was going on in there. My Dr said everything looked great, there were just 2 small spots that were not active (not his words, mine) and that I should continue on as I had been with the 2 lialda per day. Well, a couple of weeks later the blood and diarrhea started. i fought this flare up for a month and it finally seems to be stopping. The blood stopped a couple of days ago and my BM are not quite formed but much more solid than they were. I'm feeling much more like myself again. I am getting these wierd feelings in my guts that feel almost like someone is lightly touching my insides. Mostly it's the touching feeling, but sometimes it feels like pinpricks. I'm guessing it's gas because I've still got quite a lot of that. Does anyone else get this and is it going to all just work itself out? It's not horribly painful, just an uncomfortable feeling. It's better than blood and diarrhea but I'm still not liking it.
Oh, I should add that when I noticed that I was starting to have a problem, I went back up to 3 lialda per day and started taking the vsl#3 again. I'm thinking that the colonoscopy prep and also the fact that I had been taking my medication without food and lack of probiotics is what did a number on me. The Dr was surprised when he found that I was having problems because my scope was so good, so he ordered all kinds of stool testing done. Everything came back normal.
