I can't tell you how good I feel. After five months, I think I am finally in remission.
After spending a week in the hospital this summer with pancolitis, my colonoscopy 10 days ago was clinically normal, and the biopsies were also normal - I didn't even know this was a possibility. I am shocked and feel like I have been given my life back. What a gift.
I also had kidney stones as a result of the dehydration from the flare, and had surgery to blast one last week. So I've finally stopped living in fear of kidney stone pain.
And today my period finally returned after stopping for the last 23 weeks. I finally feel like a normal, fully functioning human again. Not one who bleeds from all the wrong places!
Just wanted to you all to have hope and know that your body can really do amazing things. I know this is a chronic disease, so there will be more struggles in the future, but it's great to know that you can snap back from feeling so, so awful.
I am tempted to go and get pregnant NOW, RIGHT THIS SECOND, because I'm scared that this remission window is a small one! But also not eager for any more experiments in my body. darn the biological clock!
The only thing not awesome is that Asacol is making my hair fall out. It's definitely not in my imagination - my hair is EVERYWHERE and has gotten so thin. My doc suggested switching from Asacol to sulfa drugs, but again not sure I want to make any changes when I'm feeling so good.
