I recently booked a flight for a business trip, part of my travel profile asks what seat preference I have. Naturally, having UC, I chose aisle as it allows easier access if/when I have to go. I itinerary and see my confirmed seat, 13c.

As a habit, I go on seatguru so I can see the seating chart. Lo and behold, I see my seat highlighted in RED. According to seatguru, RED is a poor seat. Why? It's right next to the bathroom! smilewinkgrin   Sorry, when I saw that I laughed because any other person would dread that seat, I on the other hand thought I won the lottery hahahaha

Just thought I would share. It's amazing what UC does to our thinking.

I'm terrified of flying. Haven't done it once since coming down with UC. What if there is a line at the bathroom? What if the pilot turns on the seat belt sign and nobody is allowed to get up? I would have absolutely zero confidence in these situations. When I gotta go I gotta go, whether there is a line or a seat belt sign on.

I'm with Gary. Terrified of flying. In fact, I don't like being in a car either.

that's awesome you got that seat! i've never been on a plane so i haven't had to worry about that yet.

i do always think of that when i'm in the hospital though. i ask them to make sure i have the bed closest to the bathroom- doesn't always happen but it's worth a shot.

the bus is the worst - the can is in the back, along with all of the uh, er, back of the bus people - of course if you need some drugs ...... you're set -

I've flown a lot since being diagnosed and have not had a problem. There are multiple bathrooms on a plane and I eat sparingly before the flight.
However........while traveling in England on a bus with no lav, I had to ask the bus driver to find a restroom. Dragged a whole busload of people with me. That's when I stopped being shy about this thing.
I still smile when I think of it. :-)

I've met some great people in the back of the bus!

YEAH, I beg to differ with them too. Having said that, I never take the RED seat either. But my trick is, eat light food 36 hours before flight departure and pop in one 20mg Bentyl an hour before flight departure. So far, have been lucky and didn't have to rush. (And I always fly for more than 8 hours non-stop, across the pond and so on)

I had to fly right after I was first diagnosed and I was super nervous too... it turned out OK (took an Imodium and I don't think I went at all on the flight) but the air pressure changes gave me HORRIBLE gas pains and bloating afterward. I've read on Crohn's boards that a lot of people take a Gas-X or something like that beforehand for that reason.
