you gave the colon a workout - with UC that often means blood afterwards.

No, there is no rhyme or reason for the most part when it comes to IBD...that's what makes this disease so nasty, you can't trick it, and if you do pull it off it will trick you back with a vengeance. You can only take each day as it comes (that's likely during remission as well, cuz you never know when it will rear it's ugly head).

lol...that is possible, but the blood would indicate still some fragility.
How long for the predfoam twice daily?

Hi Mad Mad Martha back again.
No blood today. Me thinks hemy due to having spent a morning the day before on the loo.
Predfoam twice a day for a fortnight and then once a day for a fortnight.
Could my initial flare now be settling down I wonder

It's possible, and at least you're being treated somewhat.
How much magnesium? it can cause diarrhea, quicker colon, etc.
What probiotics?

Hi Quincy
Did always wonder about
the magnesium causing the runs. Have always been loose and wondered if I should just take calcium on its own. The ammount of magnesium is 250mg. does quicker colon mean things travel through at a faster rate/
The probiotics are lactobacilius acidophilus, bifidobacterium, lactobacillius bulgarius and lactobacilius salivarius.
Phew, had to get the bottle out of the fridge to remember that.
I had been doing asacol supps before the pred but think although they worked fine for 5 weeks ,I was starting to have a reaction because I used pentasa for a bit while i got my new prescript
ion for asacol.
Going to keep my fingers crossed that I am on the mend

Yes, magnesium is an osmotic because it helps draw water toward it...more water, quicker colon since the peristalsis rhythmic motion can't slow it down enough because there's no formed stools.
I take calcium/mag/D from GNC. The magnesium is a lower dosage...and...the calcium can help calm a gut spasming. So maybe it's that you're taking too much or take one without and take a smaller amount of mag...etc?
Just a suggestion. I didn't know if you were taking it alone.
lol..thanks for the ingredients list of your probiotics. You might consider to add another probiotic with more strains in it, but mine has those strains as well (and others)..or double them and see if that helps.

Thanks for that info Quincy. It is a calcium/mag supplement so may stop it for a few days and see what happens. Been to the loo more today and very loose. Had spasms this morning. I have been taking colofac for the spasms but its not helped and I also wondered if this may be causing the frequent and very loose bms. Can predfoam also cause this. No blood today but a very sore bum.
Can you also tell me what megacolon is

megacolon is when a portion of the colon stops functioning and loses its ability to move things along. Think of a long ballon expanded and part of it not. Gas can build up in that area and cause it to expand, as well as stool that just sits there and become very toxic...possibly rupture.
Serious stuff, actually.
I don't know if the predfoam can cause it.
What oral meds are you on as well?

Don't think for one minute I have got megacolon. Just wondered what it was.
I wondered if predfoam could make you go more. I am taking 3600mg of mezevant and also take trazodone for depression.
Am going to up the probiotics and search out some more strains plus am going to stop the calcium/magnesium supplement and change to calcium with vit d. I take turmeric too.
Can it take a few days for our delicate guts to settle after a stomach bug.

Oh, yes...I meant that I didn't know if the predfoam might cause looser/diarrhea stools.
If you were only taking 200mg mixed with Calcium, it's probably not that if it's been a staple supplement.
But, try it and see if you improve.
Can you get a prescript
ion of the mesalamine enemas?
Yeah, it can take a while to get over a gastro bug, and queasiness can last too. But if you're flaring, that can cause nausea as well.
Hard to get it all firgured out...and it sucks worse that it's during one of the busiest times of the year.
