Hi Friends,
Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays
I received a newsletter a little while back about
this thing called Squatty Potty. Then saw a youtube video and was further intrigued, but not yet convinced. Now that I've been using it for a few weeks and spoke to the owner, I'm convinced this is amazing. My time on the toilet has decreased, my bowels are emptied more fuller each time and it just looks nice in the bathroom(I ordered the white one but see there's a fancy bamboo version too). Check it out:
http://bit.ly/RsmB7mI didn't like the thought of squatting(I've been to Japan and avoided it to find a regular toilet each time), to see if I'd like it before buying I took a stack of magazines and placed in front of my toilet. There are 3 size options, 5", 7" and 9", depending how flexible you are, or wish to become. Play around with magazines, or books and see what you think. It IS a tad uncomfortable at first, but it gets easier with practice. Knowing the health benefits I was determined to stick it out.
I was just reading a book, "Drop Dead Healthy" by A.J.Jacobs and in the chapter "the lower intestine" he talks about
being on the toilet too long is bad for hemroids, also bad to train your bowels, your body, your mind, to take longer to eliminate. Good to know this as I use to read novels in the bathroom!! Of course during a flare things could take longer. In a scientific study they showed decrease times from 130seconds per sitter to 51 seconds per squatter. The squatter also rated the experience easier. The most pro-squatter people say the squatting posture prevents cancer and crohn's disease- though this is so far unproven. A Proctologist was quoted in Time magazine saying "We were not meant to sit on toilets, we were meant to squat in the field"
Also found this interesting: make sure to shut the lid before flushing. Otherwise, an explosion of tiny doplets of bacteria-ridden toilet water will coat your bathroom walls and toothbrushes.
Anyway, check it out. I was a skeptic at first but really like my squatty potty. Would love to hear from others who've tried it out
