Moldy poo?

Why is it that sometimes my poo looks like it has white mold on it? Is it due to the Slippery Elm or possibly probiotics? It usually occurs when I have more formed bms.

The white stuff is probably mucous. Everyone has it, even healthy people. We sometimes have more of it due to our gut issues.

46&crashing doesn't take rectal meds. If one does, that's probably what most of it would be. If you don't, it's mucus.

So mucus looks like snot essentially. It'll be around your stool, depending on the form. Correct?


What about clear foam, either around the stool or floating on top of the water? Is that mucus, or IBS issues if you're not flaring?

I get it from suppositories in the monring.

Sibby...i would suspect it's mucus and normal gut "juices" that's got lots of air in it.

Is this true? Do they see it just as we do or is it so little they wouldn't notice it?

I know for me mucus is always the first sign of a flare.

I'm not sure about other people but my husband has it. It doesn't coat his stool like ours do, but sometimes he forgets to flush and I can see a little bit on his. Large amounts of mucous is just your colons way of saying that something is irritating it - think snot in your nose, when we get sick or have allergies, it's because something in our sinuses are being irritated so mucous is produced to protect and/or expel the irritants.
