Hi,

I was diagnosed with UC (pancolitis) in Summer 2011. Had been having symptoms for 5 months beforehand. Since then, I've more or less been on/off prednisolone constantly - starting at 40mg and reducing by 5mg weekly. Everytime I finish pred, I flare up within 2-4 weeks after I come off it and get so bad I just have to go back on it. Started Imuran in Nov 2011 and after one year of it having no effect, I started Humira in Dec 2012. Did my first four shots fine, but messed up my second lot as the needle jumped back out so I didn't get the full dosage! I am due for my next dose tomorrow which is just one injection. Just wondering if Humira worked for anyone else with severe UC and if so, how long did it take? I am currently tapering off pred and will be finished them in 2 weeks. Really want this to work confused I have been really strict with diet the past two weeks to see if it will help! Also taking olive oil and probiotics!

I have been taking it since June. Had to go up to weekly dose. Been working pretty good. Few blips here and there. Still take rectals when needed. Diet never helped me. Give the humira a good 3 months. My UC was pretty bad when I started. Would not go back on Pred ,so Humira was my next step. I have no more blood, little gas at times. Feeling good most of the time.
I started feeling good in about 6 weeks. Don't stop reg UC meds. Taking the Humira helps the meds to work!!!!! Hope you feel better:)

Thanks for the reply! Thats great it worked for you! I'm still on the Imuran at 125mg and my Mezavant XL and then the pred. I have a feeling they'll probably up me to weekly with the Humira too! Its all such a waiting game! Third dose tomorrow - looking forward to getting it over with ha. Really want to get off Pred - although the only time I can leave the house is when Im on it!

Maybe it will kick in so you can get off it! I know how you feel. I think with UC they need to up it to weekly. At the begininng it was good. Then the second week not so good. There are quite a few who take it weekly. I had no problem with insurance. I think you need to give it a try with every two weeks for a few months first.
