What are the odds

Sadly no one can tell you. This disease is so unpredictable. Some have started off as proctitis, used suppositories for a month and then the disease has never come back.

Others may start off as mild proctitis and quickly it spreads to pancolitis. Others start off mild and it stays that way for years (some in excess of 10 years) then it suddenly takes a turn for the worse and flares into pancolitis requiring surgery.

Sorry I couldn't offer a more conclusive response.

The best you can do is to try to get your mind off the disease, enjoy your remissions and realise that, in life, nothing is certain. Once you accept the uncertainty, it becomes much easier.

According to my GI, the odds are pretty slim. I would definitely keep using the suppositories even if you have periods where you're feeling 100%. You probably don't need them nightly but continue using them. I began with proctitis and mine spread to pancolitis over the course of 1-2 years.

It just depends on you as an individual. Hopefully you will never get worse but that is just totally unpredictable. I have a good friend who has UC but has been able to keep it in check for many years usually just controlling it with his diet. Then there are people like me who got progressively worse over the years to the point of surgery. Think positive thoughts and take care of yourself and your UC the best you can.

Statistics aren't subjective.

Unless your UC is extremely limited in the lower rectum, I'd still suggest you get on the enemas instead of the suppositories to cover a larger area. Pentasa enemas are 1000 mg, but at least spread out to cover more than just the rectum.

I think that will, at the very least, allow some insurance.

My last scope showed microscopic inflamtion in rectum. Large and small bowel normal. I think I'd been taking
Meds on and off at the time. I'd finish a box of pentasa then would stop until symtoms returned. Not knowing it wasn't going to go away
