Severe Joint Pain and Lialda

I have been on 2 Lialda pills for several years with no problems. I was diagnosed with a severe pancolitis flare in December and was hospitalized for 8 days. Left the hospital on 60 mg Prednisone and 2 Lialda and getting worse. Dr decreased prednisone to 40mg and started 4 Lialda a day. After about 1.5 weeks, I have been getting severe pain at night in the inside of both knees, my right wrist, and right ankle which is excruciating. Dr. isn't sure if its just arthritis from the UC or if its the Lialda. Anyone have any similiar problems while taking Lialda?

Tapering the prednisone might be a cause of the joint pain. The illness might be a cause of the joint pain, too, but then you'd think the pred would help relieve that. So I would guess it's the taper that's giving you problems.

I hope its not the Lialda because it seems to be helping my flare. Dr didn't think it was the prednisone taper because I had no problems tapering from 60mg to 40mg, and have only tapered down to 35mg when the pain started.

Sorry you had such a terrible flare. Even small decreases of the pred can cause severe joint pain. Usually only lasts about three days though if I understand correctly.
