Not sure if this has been discussed here before. I was watching a video on the mechanism of 5ASAs and the video mentioned a new drug under phase I trials in the USA, currently referred to as GED-0507-34-Levo. Apparently it has less side effects than 5ASAs and has 150 times stronger anti-inflammatory properties than current 5ASA medications. It also reports lower side effects than 5ASAs too.

Also, I am currently doing FTs at the CDD. I was told by the nurse to stop my 5ASA medications due to their antimicrobial properties. I am nervous that stopping them will cause issues (particularly stopping my rectal suppositories). Is she right in saying the 5ASAs harm our gut bacteria?

My scope (done on Monday to administer my 1st FT) showed very very mild inflammation in the rectum as well as mild ulcers on my TI.

The new drug sounds good but.. That's disturbing! We are after all the Guniea pigs! The consumers! Who make them rich off our misery :(

I know this doesn't answer your question Maxmilan but how long does each phase of a trail last? Just noticed the date was 2010

So who the drug should be tested on? Do we want to repeat Thalidomide story? And pharma companies getting rich off your misery? really? Just one business to blame. Wake up and read TORT reforms (or watch a documentary Hot Coffee) to learn who is getting rich off your misery.

I am ALL in. If they reach upto Phase III clinical trial and I am around, I will participate.

To answer your second question, there is no specific time frame for each phase of the trial. It depends on the outcomes of each phase. If the outcomes are as expected (which includes effects, side effects and severe side effects) then it goes on to the next phase. Phase I is a LONG way to go, I would give about 6 years to phase III trial and 8 more years by the time this drug arrives on shelf, IFF all goes well.

Deltaforce I've got no idea what your on about!! I was talking about current meds upsetting gut flora? My experience, having IBD after trusting the medication (Roaccutane) was safe for me to use!! I think that entitles me to be suspicious of future affects of current meds 5ASAs :/ The new drug sounds promising, I noticed it was dated 2010. So hopefully a little further ahead. I wonder of there is any current updates.

I understand your frustration but no drug developer can guess how a single patient will react to the medication. Although, most of the times FDA guidelines force drug developers to include wide variety of subjects in the trials, majority of the times the one who are tested are poor Asians (Indians, Chinese and Philipinos) so the data can not tell how a patient in the US, who has a lot different lifestyle, food habits etc. etc. will respond to the drug (Remember, patients dying after viagra, not observed in clinical trials).

And trust me, no matter how many conspiracy theories fly in the air that its in pharma company's best interest to keep all of us sick, the fact of the matter is, everyone is looking for a blockbuster drug (like Viagra). The pharma companies are well aware of the fact, no matter how best drug they develop, there is always going to be fraction of the society that wants to live just the way they live (that probably brought sickness to them) and just want to pop a pill to get well.

This is a very broad topic to discuss and beyond the scope of this post but I hope you got an idea what I mean.
With Roaccutane, you could just an unlucky one.

I am participating in a Trichuris Suis ova trial soon. If that doesn't help, I am going LDN route.
