Pre/probiotics with pregnancy

Hi all, i am pregnant and have a flare up of uc with acute pain and i vomited once-unusual for me. I am keen to learn about the use of pre/pro biotics, possibly vsl#3. Does anyone know of studies of effects on foetus?

I have to confess to not knowing of any studies related to fetuses but I can't imagine doing pre or pro biotics would be harmful at all. Heck, you can take prednisone and some of the other really nasty stuff while pregnant.

you can take all of meds if it's necessary, but first try with probiotics, L-glutamin, minerals, teas, etc...good luck...:*

And indeed how to get the tuff from a reputable supplier. Have been recommended vsl#3. Any experience using it?

Many take VSL and it helps. It has a lot of studies and it was made specifically for those with UC. As far as I know it is the only probiotic whose sole intent purpose was to treat those with UC. Some of the studies show that high dose VSL has put people into remission, although I have never actually heard of anyone personally who claimed remission solely due to VSL.

The mail order pharmacy that is attached to my health insurance carries the prescription strength version. Also someone else said Costco carries it but I do not know if the was the rx strength or the OTC. Make sure when you get it that it is kept cold. Good luck
