I get a lot of books from the library and check out various recommendations. Many that I've read are written by nutritionists who seem to agree that lactose, gluten and sugar are the principle culprits.
The latest one I am reading is "Self Healing Colitis & Crohn's by David Klein Ph.D. who had an advanced case of U.C. and experienced recovery. There are several comments by GIs and other doctors in the beginning of the book that praise his efforts to help people.
This book provides a very comprehensive approach to natural healing, from the mind-body connection to nutrition and recipes.
I keep an
open mind while reading each book and find that I usually learn something new.
I don't believe that doctors who habitually dispense medication have made an effort to learn about
or recommend natural alternatives.
When I suggested diet changes to control issues (e.g. high cholesterol, lessening bone density) doctors have actually tried to discourage me. I refused the pills and fixed the "levels" through diet modification.
I find the books by using the online search function for our library. It is part of a system with other libraries so I have access to their collections as well.
If there is an online site associated with a book I check it out.
If they are selling products, I look at the ingredients.
There is no reason to feel obligated to buy anything including the book.
Hope this is helpful.
