Feeling Ill after Remicade...what should I do?

Hi all,

I just had a remicade infusion yesterday afternoon. During my infusion my blood pressure dropped from 98 over 60 something (it's usually around there) to 78 over 45. I was freezing cold and not feeling great. The nurse didn't seem too concerned.

I continued to feel pretty crummy last night and went to bed around 9pm as I was pretty exhausted. I woke up around 1:00am FREEZING cold. My husband said I didn't feel cold because I made him warm me up. I just couldn't warm up...I took an advil and a tylonel and took my temperature. I have a fever (38.4 degrees). I feel extremely week and also nauseous.

One other item to note - I was hospitalized a few months ago for a severe flare up and have since been symptom free, up until Sunday (day before my infusion) where I started to get blood in my stool and I have had diarrhea all night tonight. My husband and I are going to Asia for a month on Saturday, and I'm now really scared to go because I don't want to be sick!

So...my questions are:

1. Should I be concerned, or let things run it's course?

2. This is my first infusion post induction period and I was on prednisone during my initial infusions

3. Will the remicade clear up this sudden flare??

I'm kind of in the same boat you are in. I am on Humira. I am tapering prednisone. I developed a fever on Sat. I called my doctors office on Monday and my doctor was on vacation and his nurse wanted me to go to the ER. I compromised and went to my PCP. but had to arguing with my nurse about that being good enough. I don't know the Celisus scale. But apparently doctors take fevers on immunosuppersants very seriously. Hope your okay.

There's really not a whole lot you can do now since its already in your system but you should call your doctor. Did they premedicate you before the infusion?

But I agree, the nurses should've been keeping a closer eye on you. My bp is usually low too and one time my bp dropped lower...I felt totally fine but you would've thought that I was going to crash the way the nurses acted! In fact a nurse stayed in the room with me the entire time and checked my bp every 15 minutes.
