I had a colonoscopy and it showed that I have lots of pseudopolyps inside my colon. They did a biopsy and they are not cancerous. But can they turn cancerous or cause other potential damage or are they just innocent false polyps since I had colitis for 15 years. Can they go away with I get my colotis well under control for a long time? Should I ask them to remove it just to be sure? I would appreciate any input on this. Thanks!

I was always under the impression that they always remove all polyps because they can become cancerous. I was surprised in your other post that they had not removed all of them. I don't know if getting your UC under control would definetly stop the polyps from forming or not. Many normal people have a regular problem with polyps.

If they have dysplasia (precancer) in them that is bad.  If not then I believe the biggest danger is that it makes it harder to screen for areas of dysplasia. 

They probably did not take them out because there was so many??  If you google pseudopolyps and ulcerative colitic you get some scary looking images, but it is the biopsy reports that are more important.

I am sure your doctor would of pointed out if there was dysplasia but just in case check the report.  It should say something like "pseudo polyps with no evidence of dysplasia".

I am in the same boat my GI is concerned with my several pseudopolyps in my colon too... all came back negative that she tested.

I've had some pseudopolyps for several years.
I asked my GI why he didn't remove them.
He said that because of the texture of the walls of my inflamed colon, bleeding could be an issue (uncontrollable) and (usually) they do not become cancerous.

Anyway, a random tissue sample was identified with dysplasia in October, 2011.
Since then I have had 2 colonoscopies with well over 100 tissue samples taken for biopsy. The last one one included tissue taken from the pseudopolyps. No dysplasia was found.

I noticed that there was bleeding after the colonoscopy which I've not experienced before.
My GI said it was because he had taken part of the pseudopolyps for biopsy ...to be on the safe side.
The polyps are located in the last bit of inflamed colon.
