Peptobismo and colitis

I was gonna get the chewables to help ease stomach pain, discomfort, and the diahreaha.. Anyone recommend this, any issues with this and being in a flare?

I wouldn't take it. I thought it contained some sort of aspirin which can cause bleeding.

I actually entered a ten year total and med free remission (that remission has been over for many years too though) largely by using pepto liberally as needed- pred was also key. That was before any other immune drugs were available and because I was 5ASA intolerant. In your case, you tolerate 5ASAs though, so I agree with quincy- and indeed, they can create issues of salycitate sensitivity (I have issues with that now and rarely use it- though once in a while a single dose is fine for me still).

OK, if you take things like pepto but actually have a pathogen then your doing yourself in. Your body goes into 'rinse mode' to eliminate pathogens like Giardia, Salmonella, Campylobactor etc. So it is unwise to stop that UNLESS you know it is just your UC i.e. immune system misbehaving.

The way to know is 3 stool samples 24 hours apart and delivered quickly to the hospital. In my case I was always NEGATIVE so I ended up taking all the pepto and immodium and mebeverine I needed. However this time I learned it would have been a mistake locking the pathogen inside myself.

Now I am on the right med to kill it. Of course the urgency is not so great with this med addition so there is no real need for that stuff now because I identified root cause and am treating that instead of the symptom.

Quite a few jpouchers use it on jpouch.org for pouchitis with good success. Don't know why it works?

My GI doctor told me it's perfectly safe to take while flaring or experiencing UC symptoms, and can help relax the stomach. I've found that it helps with indigestion more than anything, but have taken it for cramped/sour stomach as well and found it to provide at least moderate relief.
