OK, if you take things like pepto but actually have a pathogen then your doing yourself in. Your body goes into 'rinse mode' to eliminate pathogens like Giardia, Salmonella, Campylobactor etc. So it is unwise to stop that UNLESS you know it is just your UC i.e. immune system misbehaving.
The way to know is 3 stool samples 24 hours apart and delivered quickly to the hospital. In my case I was always NEGATIVE so I ended up taking all the pepto and immodium and mebeverine I needed. However this time I learned it would have been a mistake locking the pathogen inside myself.
Now I am on the right med to kill it. Of course the urgency is not so great with this med addition so there is no real need for that stuff now because I identified root cause and am treating that instead of the symptom.
