I know they are similar. Can anyone handle one and not the other? Also if you enzymes were high is that a definate no go? Could you up the dose slower or do anything to help your body tolerate it?

I would try allopurinol in combo with 6mp or imuran. If my GI wasn't comfortable with this combo, i'd find one who was.

I brought this up to my new GI. He didn't want to do that. Didn't really give a good reason why. I think if I demanded it he would cave though. Is that what you are on?

I was when I first started 6mp. I was on it for 6 months or so - hard to remember exactly how long. After I got into remission, I stopped allo and continued on 25mg 6mp and I've been doing well for over a year.

Imuran made my liver enzymes very high. This led to other issues from the liver enzymes being high like crazy itching on the bottom of my feet and palms of my hands. I also was itching all over and had some numbness. I could not sleep and it took several days off of the Imuran to actually feel better. Lucky for me so far I have been able to maintain on only Asacol. I guess I would try the 6mp. I posted a thread here with my levels in it if your interested in looking. My PCP actually called me on a Saturday with my enzyme results and told me to get off the Imuran.
