Went out to switch meds to Lialda and truck was demolished so God made a farmer..

I read that Sulfasalazine contributes to lingering anemia because it reduces absorption of Folic Acid.

Called up the GI doc and told him I am no longer a fan of Sulfa-z and need to get rid of anemia. Iron was 20 on 40 min scale. All RBC's metrics were LOW and platelet was 800 double the max so this is exactly how my UC related stroke happened in 2010. The one with the $64,000 ICU stay and paralysis that all vanished after 3 months of careful living.

I got one mile from my home and a Monster Truck pulled out of a gas station wide going opposite direction and nailed me. Yes me drivers side door, fender and front of truck crushed.

I have slept 1 hour each night this week due to prednisone and work demands, working from home continously. I told him I was needing my mobility needed to see doctors, get meds and be in company awarded training all next week in Denver every day.

This young man swung into action calling up his crew and put a chain on my fender then used his monster truck to pull the steel fender off my tire, he then proceeded to rip all the smashed panels off the wheel well inspect the engine, tape down the air filter to prevent dirt getting into the engine and adjust my door so I could go in and out again. Zero damage to his monster truck, the brush guards sailed right over my xterra tire not even touching it as it penetrated into my smaller trucks body.

I asked him what he did for a living and this 28'ish young man said 'I farm'.

If you have to be hit by someone he was the one to have hit you. He called the police and confessed it was all his fault. This boy was raised correctly.

He and his crew were puzzled why I never got angry to which I had to laugh. I don't care much about my ride all my money is in my new home I just need mobility because my life schedule is so flooded the disabled truck was going to wreck it. I told him I was on high dose prednisone that normally makes me suddenly volcanic, but I stopped taking it all at once instead 5-10mg throughout the day and I just never had an opportunity to get mad he was apologetic and helpful from the get go.

Reminded me of the commerical during super bowl...."and so God made a farmer." He seemed the opposite of this computer consultant, never heard of prednisone or needed any, working outdoors all day every day and healthy as a horse.

Thanks. It was an up note. The sun came out I got my mobility and complete opposite of the kid breaking my daughters finger at school and everyone dodging the blame for the $1200 medical costs.

This was refreshing. I was so dang happy to be out running my errands an hour later
- bike repaired at shop
- $170 in supplements picked up
- Lialda obtained
- Shopping for more steaks and yogurt
- School called and said to pickup sick daughter

This was like a smaller bounce back after stroke. Take everything from a man his money, his family, his control of his own body ( paralysis ) his livelyhood and ability to parent and give it back and you have a much happier man.

My day ( not my life ) was suddenly lost but this kid he put it all back together again quickly, people stare at the custom-by-crunch but who cares I got my freedom man.

That is a great story. I'm sorry you had to go through the bad parts though.

Sorry your car got nailed. BTW, I have an Xterra too. Love mine. Had it since 2004. Been in a couple accidents. We now get a rental through our insurance because I just can't be without a car. Its worth the extra money for me. I have got to drive a couple nice ride's because of it. ;)

Weird talking to insurance company 'maxing' out at market value. Obviously 12 year old xterra wont be worth much. That would make sense if I wrecked it. Because he wrecked it and admitted and was ticketed why isn't his insurance company obligated to return it to the condition it was prior to the accident regardless of any market value. I had a working vehicle how does the law say they do not have to compensate me for the financial injury caused undisputably ?

Long time ago insurance co. tried to total my roomates VW Beetle after an accident. She refused because she loved it. Insurance put it back to pre-accident condition and she kept it for several more years.
I don't know if you can refuse "market value" but you can try.

That's a great outcome, I think you had an angel looking out for you during that accident, keeping you cool, and having that young guy be sympathetic to your situation. Sounds like a quick fix for the most part. crap happens.

I realized this morning that it is not unfair. I can take fair market value and get some other guys 12 year old crappy xterra. Now my plan will not change, maximize house without pimping ride. It was one or the other not both bills increasing.

However maybe the newer model xterra say 8-10 years old with better interior, better sound system would be a worthwhile upgrade for a 'few' thousand more.

Option 2 - [ market value of 12 year old truck + salvage value + they keep vehicle ] + small personal loan for nicer ride.

Worth looking at.
