I have had ulcerative colitis over a year now, aug/sept of 2012 i had a horrible flair up and was in the hospital for weeks. I am now on remicade, but ever since coming out of the hospital I have been refluxing meals like CRAZY. No acid burning or anything but its almost as if I am just throwing up meals. Usually its only when I eat a larger meal but still I have never had anything like this happen to me before. Wandering if anyone has the same symptoms or has any knowledge on it! Doctors give me reflux meds..which don't help. They dont know what it could be from.

Did you see an ENT? I Have LPR which is a form of reflux but my only symptom is coughing. There is a GERD Board here that has a lot of very helpful members, you may want to post over there and see if they can help you.

I also do want to mention I am 5'1" and 115 lbs if that helps

Interesting. I used to experience this a lot. Almost daily multiple times a day. It has gone away for the most part but still comes every once an a while. I never really associated the two because I never heard of anyone else having the same symptoms.

Maybe it's slow digestion, where the food is just not leaving your stomach in a timely manner. Or perhaps just upper GI gas that's pushing the food back up into your esophagus. I've certainly had my share of reflux during flares.

Is your UC otherwise controlled well by the remi?

I didnt get this at all during my major flare which sent me to the hospital.. but then again I was barley eating for those two months. When I did start to have an appetite while in the hospital I dramatically changed the amount I was eating from nothing to alot..and never experienced any reflux at that point. about a week after leaving the hospital it was happening every day progressively getting worse and still does to this day. but to answer you question about the remicade.. I was responding very well to it at first. I just had my 5th infusion yesterday and the whole month and a half before that I can not say I had a "normal" day once. It may just take time for the remicade so we will see!

What are you on for reflux? Have you had an upper GI scope?

I have really bad reflux and have had ulcers. I am currently on prescription zegerid which helps a good bit. I will have reflux flares (in addition to uc flares). I still have breakthrough reflux a few times/week.

My dentist seems to have what you encounter, with vomiting meals.

If you can find a way to test your stomach acidity or pH this would be helpful in determining the environment of your esophagus and stomach. May need to supplement with Betaine HCL if not enough stomach acid is present. Maybe vice versa too.
