Why DSS mouse models are not that great

Interesting they found cyclosporine worked well, that was one of my sons rescue meds,did not work.

Mesalazine and buedesoside were weak or made it worse.

Strange indeed. Perhaps this is a reason we have no cure,what is working in people not working in mice and vice versa.

I also think there is a big difference between human UC and mouse induced UC. Obviously since the causes of the UC are different, the treatments would be different.

Mouse models and other animals models are honestly quite great, but the challenge is always improving the models as we learn more about different diseases. One of the flaws right now with any colitis model in mice is that it's pretty clear that what's exactly causing colitis varies from person to person. Otherwise, drugs would work the same way for just about everyone!

Mouse models can only be done the same way every time, which is important (replication is essential), but unless your colitis is occurring the same way that the mouse colitis is occurring, the results won't be as helpful to you.

What I think will eventually happen is that we'll find some specific mutations in human colitis, find ways to induce those mutations in mouse colitis, and then we'll be able to find better treatments.

I personally think stem cells is the answer to end our misery...I'm awfully sick of waiting for a cure, history shows "treatments" are garbage, I say enough already!!
