Do you use a sleeping aid?

I havent had a good night sleep in months, does anyone else have they problem during a flare? What keeps you from sleeping or constantly waking up, and what are you doing to stay asleep?

I can't sleep more than 2 hours at a time (when I am lucky) because I am getting up so much to go to the bathroom. I won't use a sleep aid because I take enough meds already and I'd be afraid I wouldn't wake up when I had to go and end up messing the bed!

My best suggestion is keeping a sleep/wake schedule, I know it can be hard when flaring but you can just take it easy and not sleep during the day or when you shouldn't be.

Good luck with your efforts, this is what helps me the most though.

Considering your recent situation, contact your doctor for a medication that could help you.

I wouldn't suggest medication, only because there are many on this forum that have reported adverse effects from the sleeping pills they take.

Instead you could look into a low dose of melatonin to encourage sleep.

although, melatonin it's contraindicated in autoimmune disease.

Yes, but in the case of You-See, he doesn't have rheumatoid arthritis, and i'm suggesting a safer alternative because sleeping pills can be troublesome. :)

he has UC and already a reaction to a medication because of it.

His choice regarding your suggestion, of course....just making a factul statement about melatonin.

Sleeping pills can definitely be troublesome.

Another suggestion could be Bentyl (dicyclomine)...can cause one to be a bit mellow.

Ativan, while possibly troublesome...he's already on prednisone. It can help with easing some of the anxiety in recuperating from illness.
Stick to the prescription.

or...stay up till whenever and sleep when you can.
