OMG! Those poor passengers. My heart goes out to all of them. Crew as well.

Several people who are aware of my GI daily struggles have mentioned this disabled cruise and the nightmare that unfolded, asking me what I'd do. I have to chuckle, because - I'LL NEVER BOARD A CRUISE SHIP IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!

Agree quincy. People have asked me what I'd do and I just say - fast, everything, fast - I'd probably end up in the hospital after an event like this. I'd be so freaked out to put anything in my mouth w/o the comfort of knowing I'd have a toilet.

Besides these are marine toilets and I prefer flushing toilets.

Still, the images I see online and stories I've read in articles sound awful. I do feel for these people.

I feel for them as well, only because I can imagine it.

My opinion....it's not like it hasn't happened in the past...recent past for that matter.
That many people in a ship (an entity unto itself)...one cannot leave,and is at the mercy of the functioning of that entity.

Travelling isn't my thing, and as for the people on a ship....it's a risk they all take..just as all do on a plane or a tour bus.

Hope nothing goes wrong that someone gets deathly ill.

If I was stuck in that situation (not that I ever would be) I'd be hanging my butt over the side and lettin' loose!!

When I heard they were eating onion sandwiches I thought...never never never in a million years would i set myself up for that potential disaster.

I don't particularly like huge social gatherings that last hours, this would be a nightmare.

I took a class for a concealed carry weapon last week and had to be in a town 30 miles away at 7:30 AM and didn't get home until 5:00 PM. Had a twenty minute lunch in which I got a bacon egg and cheese biscuit without the biscuit. That tested heavily the limits of my endurance. I was so glad to be home! wink

I've always wanted to go on a cruise but after seeing what happened with this one, it sort of changed my mind. Lol than my husband brought an even better reason to not go one. Imagine going on a two week cruise with the same people. Day in and day out, seeing the same people, being exposed to lord knows how many germs. Especially from the kids (I absolutely love children, but they're germ factories). So I think I will pass going on any cruise in the future!

These poor people though. They said that the reason they didn't send another ship out to do a transfer is because of the safety of the passengers. Trying to transport them from one ship to another was too high of a risk. I heard they made it back to port already?

     Hubby and I have been on seven cruises, all during the time I suffered with UP..lol.  Ironically, I never suffered a flare on a cruise, however, I did when I returned to New Jersey.  Must be this healthy Jersey air rolleyes !

We were actually on another Carnival ship when the Triumph broke down, that was not the news we wanted to hear, lol. I started hoarding food and water, just in case, but mainly because I am crazy :D
This was my fourth cruise, and my son's 3rd, we have gone every year for the past 3 years with him. I personally love it, you don't really see the same people every day, and I'm with kids all day everyday anyway so it doesn't make a difference to me. Plus, we go in the winter so most kids are in school!
It would be awful though, it is a scary thought that a person could be trapped like that for a long time. The news said that the next 12 cruises were canceled so they could clean and fix the ship. That's gonna take A LOT of bleach!

I'm thinking that Carnival might want to dry dock that ship for awhile...I don't think anyone will want to cruise on it unless the price of the trip is heavily discounted. Agreed summerstorm..a lot of bleach will need to be used. So glad I'm not the one to have to clean it....

I enjoy cruising enough to not be discouraged by this event.

Have gone on Princess and Royal Caribbean cruises in months where there were few kids on board.

I can see where it would have been advantageous to have a balcony cabin on this particular Carnival cruise. :-)

Not everyone was affected equally. Some passengers said the media exaggerated the whole episode.

The cruise passengers were compensated pretty well for their inconvenience; cost of trip reimbursed, free cruise in future and $500.
