I think my flare ups are finally somewhat controlled by medication. When I first developed UC, I had a flare up that would not subside. Finally, I started Asacol and that managed the symptoms for a year. After that year, I had another flare up but I don't believe the flare up was due to outside stressors, I think it was due to Asacol no longer being effective - or perhaps it wasn't effective enough to keep things at bay. At that point, I tried a ton of different medication and had to take a course of prednisone and I was unable to taper off. I had to begin 6mp. Since being on 6mp, I have been stable and it's been quite a while. I do notice some symptoms when I am stressed but it hasn't turned into a flare up. I think a flare up goes beyond stress in my case. It's a chronic condition that is either managed or it's not and just because I've been lucky enough to have it managed this year doesn't mean it will continue to stay that way but I try to think positive or I will get depressed.
