So I am still suffering with pain. I have noticed the pain gets worse when I eat but I also notice the pain meds for nerve pain are helping. I am on Lyrica and Cymbalta. So my question is can flare pain cause your nerves to hurt? I do not understand why it would hurt to eat and the nerve pain meds would help. It seems like if it is UC pain then the nerve pain meds would not work. But if it is nerve pain it would not get worse when I eat. I have a colonoscopy scheduled Friday.
Normally it would not matter so much but I am having trouble finding anyone who will get a PA for my insurance for the Cymbalta. everyone is scared that it will interact with my psychiatric meds badly so they do not want to be the one responsible. I did get the makers of Cymbalta to agree to give me one month free so I have some time to figure this out now. It was prescribed in the hospital and I cannot get in touch wit the hospital doctors. I am going to try my neurologist tomorrow. But if I understood what is causing the pain it would help in knowing who to ask.
Thank you very much for reading and/or responding

Where is the nerve pain you think is being treated by the Lyrica and Cymbalta?

It is on my left side, about
waist high and extending down all the way to my pelvis. It is a burning, stabbing, pressure.

Are you in remission or not? Could still be just the UC. If not its probably something else. Maybe the meds but not sure since I'm not well up to date on the ones you are on.

I am on prednisone 10 mg. some days I will go about
8 xs it will be D. Other days I will go once or twice. This is a new place I have never been before. I know you can't have true remission on prednisone. But in a UC flare I have never had pain other than cramping right before/during a bowel movement or back spams during/ after. We are doing a colonoscopy Friday to see if it is the UC but I am just confused on how the nerve pain meds can be working and it can hurt when I eat. I know all about
the placebo effect but really don't think that is it.

Have you tried just using an anti-spasmodic? Do you think it could be colon spasms causing this pain?

Thank you for the suggestion. I am on an antispasmodic. Hyoscyamine is also called anaspaz. It is a constant pain so I don't think it can be spasms. I am vary confused because I have never had pain like this. The originally thought it might be shingles but if it is I do not u dear stand how it always gets worse when I eat. I can go without taking a Percocet everyday until I eat something. It doesn't matter what I eat. Have been doing a really bland diet and that doesn't help either. I have a colonoscopy scheduled Friday and a neurologist scheduled Monday. So hopefully someone will figure it out.
Also on a positive note, I misunderstood my PCP they will do the prior auth they just wanted me to get permission from my psych to take the med.
