Got surgery!

Wow, great to hear your surgery went smoothly and that you're having working poops ;-)

so a week after surgery, you went out and bought an apartment? is that a condo? I didn't know one bought an apartment.
Regardless...still wow!

Not cheesy to say it's the happiest you've been since before diagnosis...it's obviously the truth. Just don't be grateful to have had UC that got you to this place...it'd ruin the moment of joy I have for you.

I'm probably going 6 times a day - once in the middle of the night. Really depends on what I eat and drink and when. I plan to improve on these numbers as I continue to heal. I had leakage in the first few days but not anymore.

I mean I still have an open wound where my stoma was. Surgeon wants it to close on its own. Takes a day or two to get used to - looks like a bullet hole heh. They got my stuffing it with saline soaked gauze twice a day till it closes up.

Hey Todd, a couple reasons... First of all I was on prednisone and Remicade at the time when I opted for surgery so my ability to heal was compromised (along with antibiotics and methotrexate and a few other things, but those didn't factor in as much). Secondly I had been flaring for about nine months by then -- I never got into remission -- so I was underweight and clinically malnourished. I must say it gets me a little down to see that some people go from first surgery to takedown in less time than I even had my first stoma for, but realistically I know I never would have made it through the pouch construction in the state I was in in January, so I try to be patient

Hey team! Sorry I've been MIA.

Been doing very well, living like normal again with my new J-pouch!

So about 4 weeks after surgery I had a minor setback, was feeling so good that I overworked myself and strained my new system. The usual recovery is about 6 weeks and then back to exercising and whatnot. For me it took about 8 weeks. The strain wasn't that big a deal just had to take it easy until I was fully healed.

Nowadays I'm going about 3-7 times a day just depends on my diet that day and if I take Imodium. I feel like if I fully committed to paleo diet I could get it down to 2-3 times a day. I bought two bidets, one that I set up at my house and the other is a travel bidet that most of the time I leave at work. The bidet really helps prevent burning and itching. Although sometimes I'll need to add in A&D, jock itch powder, or calmoseptine.

My J-pouch will continue to stretch out in the next few months, so even though I'm very satisfied now - I plan to improve even more. I will try to continue to post on here periodically, but definitely am enjoying getting back to life after 5 years of UC.

I hope y'all are doing well! If anyones considering surgery, I would def recommend it - just make sure to get an all star surgeon!
