My colonoscopy today

Hadn't been on here in a long time. Had to have a colonoscopy today. Has been 2 years. In the one back in 2009 I had a small spot of inflammation outside of where my UC was, same thing again in 2011 along with erythema throughout the entire colon. This time no inflammation was found, healed up somehow. No redness found but my UC in my sigmoid colon and rectum is mildly active again. Have not even felt anything unusual in that area. Hate to hear that. Several biopsies were taken and I will call the office and hear from them in a week. He did state he saw nothing he was worried with. Finding out also that my gastro doctor I've been seeing for 27 years now is just working 3 days a week now and is heading toward retiring, so not happy with that. Hope all is well with everyone else that I used to chat with on here. Still feel bloated and gassy some. That's one of the downsides. The other is the prep.

I hope the biopsies come back okay too. are you having symptoms?

did the doc at least give you rectal meds to deal with the rectum/sigmoid? If not...you should ask for them.

My GI's down to 3 days a week as well....I can relate to the dismay of retirement. been 24 years for me.

Hope all biopsies are unremarkable.

I had some bleeding after my last colonoscopy but it was from the biopsies. I doubled up on the probiotics and drank my slippery elm cocktail at night.
Also ate foods (e.g. chicken soup) that were gentle on my system for a couple of days.

After finding that there was still some inflammation in the descending colon and rectal area, I asked for a scrip for mesalamine enemas.
Hope the biopsy results are OK.

You need to get on rectal meds...seriously/ Please consider them sooner than later. I'd suggest Rowasa...you're flaring.

The bleeding is from the biopsies...normal.

but you mentioned you have inflammation in the rectum and sigmoid?  It's not about the bleeding...

Active means active inflammation, even if it's mild. Inflammation should be dealt with, and rectal meds to treat it and maintain its level should be a course of action.

Not all of us who have active inflammation have obvious symptoms. You've proven that. Again, that's why i continually push the rectal meds, especially treatment and then tapered to maintenance.

What I do suggest is that you get a copy of your biopsies report for your records and research...especially the active part.

and i guess I shouldn't be more concerned than your doc is....you were, after all, had a response regarding the fact that you did have inflammation. 

The fact that it's in the sigmoid as well....means it's not even only limited to the rectum.

I should have asked...what exactly are your symptoms such as bms, consistency, urgency, mucus etc?

My son's biggest problem is lower bleeding and his doc won't give him enemas, so frustrating. He just put him in Flagyl and he is going more and bleeding more. Help!

Well, got my biopsy results from pathology today from my colonoscopy last Thursday. All areas of my colon showed no active colitis. Including the sigmoid colon and rectal area that my gastro doctor said showed a mild case of active ulcerative colitis. Interesting. Wonder what he thought of that report? I told him I had no symptoms whatsover of any activity. I know when I am flaring. But I'm glad also of what it showed. Reprieve for at least two years.

Makes you wonder Quincy. Anyway, don't know what I can do about the irritation from the hemorrhoids. Already had problems with it before the colonoscopy. The itching, burning, internal swelling, has been bothering me worse since the colonoscopy. Any suggestions?

Well, I requested a copy of my lab work from my colonoscopy be sent to me. All biopsy results showed no active colitis and no dysplasia. I asked my gastro doctor years ago if they were checking for cancer and he said just the status of my colitis. Obviously that isn't so. Glad to know everything looks good.
