Topical NSAID gels and UC

In my research I haven't found much info. I know NSAIDs in pill form and UC is verboten, but what about those anti-inflammatory rub in ibuprofen gels for muscle / joint aches. Do they still mess with UC even though they bypass the gut?

In my case, they do.

I have tried Diclofenac Potassium topical gel on my neck muscle (as thats where my migraine originates) and was in flare the next day.

Having said that, I have been using NSAIDs a lot as migraine abortive. None other abortive works.

Okay thanks.

So my next question would be, Is there an effective non NSAID AI that good for rubbing into joints that doesn't flare UC?

I've used Volteren a few times, for shoulder problem and lower back pain. Pharmacist said it is still a small chance of affecting you but most likely wont. Not sure I'd use it while flaring but when in solid remission i don't hesitate. I think the occasional use is okay and wont do much harm but wouldn't use it all the time

Do you have to use NSAIDS? These can be dangerous, regardless of IBD. Keep in mind that the skin is the body's fastest method of absorption.
