Stopping flare up without pred.

I need advise about stopping a flare up or diareah without using prednisone. Everytime i have diareah or bleeding inside my stomach my doctor puts me on prednisone, i absolutly hate the side effects to it. is there any way i can stop it without prednisone......please disregard my mispelled words.

i cant exactly remember what all meds i am on, i know i am on asacol, folic acid, mecaptapurine, and vitamin D3. I think that is all that i am on. i am currently at school on the library computer and dont have my medication with me at the moment so that is why i dont know which ones i am on. but i am pretty certain those are all the ones i am on

Oh....i am also on cortizone anema. prednisone, for ten days only though, i have five more to go

The way I do it, if the flare and bleeding isn't bad, I get on a bland/B.R.A.T diet. I also take 65 mg of iron 3x a day to prevent myself from becoming anemic plus all my other meds. That way, the intestinal tract will be less irritated and allowed to heal on it's own. Only problem with that is that it takes longer than it would if you take pred (2-3 weeks for me?) but it varies on how fast your body heals.

I also have to take iron. Thats how i got diagnosed in the first place. i had to get blood work done and they sent me up to the hospital because i was anemic and they found out i have UC that way.

Hopefully in remission; little pain etc.

By diagnosed, you mean with UC, right? If that is what you meant, I hope that you were scoped/had a CT scan to be sure of it and not just assumed by blood work. How low was your hemoglobin and how much is your iron dosage? I take 65 mg 3 times a day.
