You can use the search function at the top right of the page under the Join HealingWell tab to find a large number of posts on the subject of slippery elm.
Can also check out cureforulcerativecolitis.com for info on alternative therapies.

With Ulcerative Colitis I have an aversion about
taking anything with the word "slippery" in it.

Slippery elm is the single best supplement I took when I had active UC. I'd highly recommend giving it a shot.
It is a huge anti-inflammatory and soothes ulcerations. I bought it in bulk powder form on Amazon, think the brand is starwest botanicals or something like that.

I have looked it up and looked at my health food store but I am in Canada and we can't seem to find it here. Could it be under a mother name? Amazon won't sell it to Canada.

Thank ItIsAlwaysSomething! I did not know amazon had a Canadian site. I don't do a lot online. Computers don't like me much and I don't like them either. I do all my computer stuff on my phone! Lol.

I have tried health food stores and all three of the supermarkets we have and no one sells it. Do the capsules work just as well as the powder?

Okay I have another question. My doctor said that I SHOULDN'T takeout because I won't absorb the other medications because it causes the mucous lining thicker and won't allow it to be absorbed. Has anyone had this issue? How do you get past this issue? I really want to try slippery elm it sounds wonderful!

To me slippery elm is a paradox. I think the directions say not to take it within two hours of any meds. To me this means that slippery elm only works for two hours. The way it works is to coat your insides, which causes the malabsorption. In my opinion the only way you can get good benefit out of it is to take it every two hours and have your insides coated 24/7 but then you can't take any other meds. If you go by the directions then it is my opinion that you aren't getting enough benefit out of it because your insides are not constantly coated. I used to take mine at bedtime so that it worked all night and that was a time where I wasn't taking any meds. Slippery elm didn't do anything for me.
