Prednisone Enema - First Time!

Instructions should have been provided with the product about insertion positions, timing, etc.

I would advise using lube on the tip of the enema and some inserted in the rectum, either petroleum jelly or a water based personal lube from Walmart (less expensive than KY brand).

I have some tips.

firstly and unrelated to tips, I am surprised you've never used enemas considering you have UC and there are a lot of rectal medications available that may have helped you and you could have avoided steroids...

That aside, squeeze all of the air out of the bottle before attempting to squeeze the medicine into your butt - do it over the sink. I usually squeeze it in while I am standing in the bathroom but if I am doing a fleet or something really watery, I lay down before inserting. The key for me is to lay down right after putting the medicine in. I do not go crazy trying to squeeze every bit in, I put as much as I can without struggling to empty the bottle. I lay down and try my best to relax. I stay on my left side. Often times I will have a bit of cramping but I breathe deep and get through it the best I can. I have had a few times where I've had to expel the medicine but usually after 5 minutes of discomfort, you will be able to hold it in through the night. If the tip is not lubricated enough, you can always add something to the tip.

The enemas you use, are the called Predsol Retention enema 100ml? If so, you will get maximum effect if you can lie down for 4 hours. They help inflammation both lower and higher. You don't need to leave the tube in.

Use them at bedtime...as in when you are going to sleep.
