Just got food allergy tests back.. Mercola whey protein question

So apparently I have a "low" allergy to milk... whatever that means. I had a pair of moderate things, and about 4 "official" allergies... Apparently.

I guess these tests are notoriously unreliable also...

But, I JUST ordered a not so inexpensive order of Mercolas whey Optimal Protein... now Im wondering if I can eat it. According to his site people who are lightly intollerant of lactose can eat it fine, I jut dont know what a "milk allergy" denotes... Lactose or what?

Trying to get a appt with an allergist, but that should take months I assume.

What are your official allergies?

Id stay away from all milk products. I believe if you are just a "lil" allergic you can heal the gut and make it friendly to the bacteria that will eat the milk in the future.. but if you continue eating something your body is reacting to, even if it is just a little.. at some point a switch in the immune system flips and milk is no longer an option because it becomes a true allergy.

I think Im at true allergy for milk now after abusing my weakened immune system an eating it even though I knew I was lactose intolerant and that it was effecting me.. but at my worst, I tested positive for many foods that I happily eat now.. so I hold out hope that maybe I can heal my gut enough to eat it again.


remind me what "diet" you are trying to follow or ones that have not worked for you

freddyj, positive results you can fall back on. Keep testing if you want, thats what I hope to do -- but I would definitely follow suit with these results and abstain from these foods or allergens and at least see if you feel better in a few weeks. Looks like nuts, dairy, wheat & corn are kind of out of the question for you.

I think i'm intolerant to dairy too, so when i look for GF products, i tend to stay away from the ones with dairy. But alot of the GF products don't have dairy anyway. :)

Sucks about corn, because yes mexican food is great, but hey you can still go for a side order of beans + rice for the time being!

You need to find out if it's the lactose, or casein.

Although interestingly enough I don't tolerate dairy at all, and yet have no problems with Mercola's Pro-Optimal Whey shakes (maybe it's because it already contains digestive enzymes within it).

 

freddy, ask what kind of test you got. if it's the ige, that would show classic allergic reaction symptoms that happen soon after you eat the food like hives, swelling, redness. the igg test shows a delayed response which really contributes to leaky gut syndrome and autoimmune diseases. they mostly show up as GI problems, running nose, itchy eyes, hives but it could take hours or even days for symptoms to occur. these are much harder to pinpoint since you don't know what food is causing it. it's because the food particles stay in your system and the body treats them as foregin invaders thus triggering an immune sponse.

The GI issues could be the reaction. Take them out and see what happens? As for peanuts, not all allergies are anaphalactic - most aren't, so you're lucky enough to have a milder allergy to them but if you keep eating them that can change (though it might not. I wouldn't risk it).

Look at GAPS and allergies - are you on the paleo diet? I'm not sure? You might be able to heal some allergies by healing your gut - there's quite a lot of info out there but then again don't know how likely it is to work..
