Hey, ive been reading about Fecal Microbiota Transplant curing C. Diff colitis. But does any one know if it has been tested on Non C .Diff colitis patients?

This is what they are testing at McMaster Hospital in Canada right now. There's a thread for it started by Mackster... You could read through it and perhaps he might be able to answer some of your questions. Actually I think there's two people on the board here that are participating in the study.

It's exciting stuff... Cure or not... well that remains to be seen. But some aspects/results sound very promising.

There are other threads on here for people doing the home version. You could search FT or Fecal Transplant on here. Like most other approaches it seems everyone is responding different. Some are helped by FT and others have become worse...

that first link you posted is awesome. good find!

i tried 8 fecal transplants for my UC last year and i had not been diagnosed with c diff prior to that. i actually got a lot worse and i think it was because my bacteria was just very different than my donor. she was a meat eater and i was a vegan. if i were to try it again, i'd pick someone with a diet similar to mine.

I tried it in June / July 2011 and yes it can work, however if you do it yourself like I did it can take awhile and there may be some ups and downs along the way too. In my case I had to supplement it with other drug therapies to get it to work.

Besides Dr. Borody's paper "Bacteriotherapy using Fecal Flora: Toying with Human Motions" which you linked to there is another one which goes into even greater detail. "Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis using Fecal Bacteriotherapy" http://www.cdd.com.au/pdf/publications/paper17.pdf which documents 6 cases where fecal transplants were successful.

It was that paper which persuaded me to postpone surgery to give this a shot instead after 12 years of dealing with Ulcerative Colitis. I later added Bupropion to my treatment regiment after finding a discussion thread here on HealingWell.com about using Bupropion (Wellbutrin) for Crohn's Disease. I am now completely symptom-free without taking any drugs and without restricting my diet. This after doctors told me that surgery was my only option. Thank you for sharing those links. Honestly it sounds very promising - I read the PDF and it's very interesting on how they performed the actual procedure. The whole screening first of the donors, then basically "wiping clean" the patient's colon, THEN performing the fecal transplant.
I'm not saying this is a silver bullet but it sounds to me like this theory holds water.
So all their 6 cases were cured.... Is there a wider trial of this? involving more cases?
I mean, if it worked so great for these 6 then everyone should have jumped on this bandwagon immediately, no?

in the clinical trials with proper controls the results were marginal. there may be a subgroup it works for, or it may only work for UC patients with undiagnosed infections.

The cautious term used in latest review is "variably efficacious" - which translates as hit and miss
