How to get Asacol HD for the lowest price?

I need to be taking Asacol HD as I respond to it somewhat and the Dr keeps saying that is the best thing for My ulceratice colitis. I can't afford the $800 it costs for a one month supply and am asking the community the cheapest way to buy it. I know I need to take this medication and have tried sulfasalizine and herbal and other remedies, but Asacol HD needs to be part of my regimen. What do you do to get the best price?

The oral meslamine-based drugs are quite expensive. You have a few options including discount cards offered by the medicine manufacturer and also ordering directly from Canadian Pharmacies.

There is an Asacol HD Patient Savings Card (a similar card is offered for other oral meslamine's such as Lialda). Those cards typically reduce the out of pocket costs for your medicine but it is still quite pricey.

Canadian Pharmacies are another option available to you. In the USA, their are no low cost, generic forms of oral meslamine. However, elsewhere in the world, you can buy generic and save money. A recent thread from 3/14/2013 talks about the Canadian options.

I just bought 3 months (2 pills a day) from a Canadian pharmacy for $200. I would look around at the pharmacies in Canada. The copay assist card sometimes only gives you about $50 off. If you're uninsured and low income, you may be able to get into a patient assistance program that can make the medication free. Patient assist and copay assist are not the same, the latter if for insured people and is intended to help make the copay for affordable.
