Bleeding since 5 30am -7 hours so far

This just sucks! Back and forth to the bathroom bloody D and painful spasms. I just don't think I can take probiotics (started VSL3 two nights ago, much worse since!) Have two bottles, one is never been opened! I just had 6 out of the one and it cost me over $100 bucks! I was thinking I needed it but for some reason probiotics don't agree with me. Why? They are fine for me if I'm on a antibiotic, but being off them they irritate my colon.

 I was doing great before on antibiotics! Today I could cry. I'm swollen in my colon (lol) lots of blood!

I'm going to start antibiotics again in the next week, approved by my GI and see if I don't improve again.

when you are on an abx they are just killing the probiotics largely. So that is probably why you dont react. I dont think VSL is right for everyone. How about just starting with single strains or a couple at a time.. Ie, add in acidopholis at high dose and see how you do.. then add the bifido bacteria in for your colon.

I only took vsl3 after I mostly had healed up the actual ulcerations to my intestines. I think when you take some of these super high dose probiotics when you havent healed your gut then things that werent meant out of your gut get into your blood stream and your body violently reacts.

Just a theory.

In anycase, stick the vsl 3 back in the fridge and maybe try 1 pill a day when you have been feeling well for a little bit.. then work up. 6 is alot to start with on a gut that has been recently on abx

VSL#3 did absolutely nothing for me :( I think it's very individual. Maybe it's not the right probiotic for you. Hopefully you can get back on the antibiotics and feeling better again soon.

So sorry this is happening! Is it possible this is not the VSL3 at all but rather the common blowback/whiplash effect after stopping abx? Namely, that pathogen populations are suppressed during abx but then typically bounce back to much higher levels than they we even at the start of abx therapy, once you stop- that is precisely why probiotics are important when taking abx, and why abx therapy can be so tricky to do in IBD unless there is a very tightly controlled protocol being followed to defeat that phenomenon.

What protocol is your doc following with your abx therapy, anyway- I recall you mentioned pulsing between two abx types- but Was it going to be a long term therapy to follow for years or just supposed to be x number of weeks or months? I think it is essential to combine probiotics into any antibiotic therapy - especially towards the end and right after you are done. However, by all means try different probiotics - eg single strain brands- if you suspect VSL3 is making things worse.
