What do you do when you can't kick a mildish/moderate flare

I have been flaring for over 4 years now, and it's not too bad although, I have been on pred most of the time...some days I go twice, some days 10-12 times....I'm a teacher and still work fine, although I have to leave class from time to time. We have done all medications but uceris, and i'm at 200 mgs of Imuran that seems to keep it kind of at bay, but should I just except that this is how it is? I'm about to start uceris soon, but it's starting to get really frustrating.

Somewhere in there is a clue. If you are on roughly the same meds and some days you only go twice while other days you go much more then something else is in play - maybe dietary things? I don't believe the disease is that erratic without external or internal influences.

Are you using any other medications? I usually use double the rectals if I am mildly flaring. Sometimes it helps, other times it may not. If you taper off pred, do your symptoms increase?

How much of your colon is inflamed? I hope Uceris works for you.

It's my 2nd day on it and also my 2nd day on 100 mg Imuran (I upped it from 50 to 100) and I just checked my food journal. Today is the very first day with only one bowel movement. One! :-)

thanks, I will be more careful with my diet...I admit, I don't watch it like I should.....My doc won't prescribe uceris right now, he wants me to taper my prednisone slower, even though last appt he said, "I don't want you on prednisone very long"....I am so sick of being on prednisone after all these years!

I have proctitis and left side, not sure how much of my colon is inflamed

nightside of eden, I really didn't think my diet could be a problem, and yet when I (inadvertently) went gluten free for 4 weeks, I went into remission. Not like I was bleeding or anything before, and I was off or very very close to off prednisone, but all urgency is gone and my stool is formed and life is grand. Really, try changing your diet. My own first response was that I didn't want to believe that I was gluten sensitive, but I'm SO happy to really be in remission that now I never want to eat gluten again.
