I have had a "nervous" stomach since I was in Jr high. I could never figure out what to eat and my nerves were compounded by being dyselxic and having a maligment melanoma at 17. I also was diagnosed with Anklylosing Spondylitis at 34, but had symptoms since I was 16.
When I was diagnosed with AS I went on a super restrictive diet, which is like SCD, but I eliminated ALL starches and sugars (including fruit). Also I ate only raw veggies. The discomfort in my tummy went away almost at once and the AS pains gradually subsided. about a year into the diet, I was in remission, unless I was experimenting with new foods. I have had two AWESOME years... more energy than I have ever had (working full time, doing graduate school work, working out a lot and having fun).
Right before x mas I started to get an ache in my groin, on the right side, right next to the bladder (so very low). It would come and go. Right after x-mas I got a ache in my left ribcage, right at the bottom all the way to the side. It wraps around about an inch to the front and an inch to the back. The groin stuff turnrd to constant pain. My gyno thought it was a kidney/bladder infection. He gave me antibiotics and told me to wait for the urine tests (4 days later) unless it got worse. It got worse and I took them, only to find out the tests were clear.
Things got very, very bad. My normal constipation tendencies (which were fine with probiotics) turned to diaharea for weeks.... and the two pains I described were off the charts.... my tummy hot and burny.... night time sweats and daytime chills. My lymph nodes in my groin were very swollen, only on the side with the groin pain (I wonder if the groin pain was mainly from th lymphs this entire time). Now I am back to constipation, not feeling feverish and the lymph pain goes away at times (but now seems more like joint pain as well). My stomach and pain get very, very angry when I eat still, though. There is only mucus in the stool on rare occasion and only a tiny bit of blood once or twice.
I have seen a GI and he is highly suspisious of IBD. I did a stool test and blood work and almost TWO WEEKS later I am still awaiting results. He said once they were back, it would take another TWO weeks to schedule a coloscopy. IS THIS NORMAL????!!!? It is killing me!
My direct questions are:
1. Do people get pain in the far, far left side of the rib? Could this be some kind of obstruction? I do not think it is only gas, as it never entirely goes away (but it bounces between a 4-9 pain level). The rest of my tummy is burning, but not directly painful.
2. Do people get the groin pain I describe? I also get tailbone pain on occation in the past couple months.
3. Is it normal for testing to take this long? Should I find another GI who is more responsive to figuring this out?
Thanks so much,
Stacey
