Going to the GI later. I think he is leaning towards Remicade. Should I go for it or ask if I can try Uceris first? Been flaring bad for 2 weeks now and I need to get better soon so I can go back to work. My dose os Mesalamine was upped 4 lialda as apposed to 8 regular asacol(will switch to asacol HD next week due to insurance and lialda). Also have been doing mesalamine enemas for the last week. I'd like to try Uceris first but I need to do whatever it takes to start recovering soon

I'd say try Uceris first if it's covered by your health insurance. I'm doing pretty well on it.
You can always try Remicade later in case it fails.

My thoughts exactly. My insurance will cover it

I agree, Uceris first. Maybe that will be enough to get you out of this flair and than you can maintain w/ asa's. You can always go to Remi later on.

This is a no brainer. Remicade can have many possible pitfalls. Uceris basically has none.

will probably have to push for the Uceris but I will. He seems to like remicade but I'll wait till a last resort for that. Thanks for the support guys

Sorry, but I have to disagree with the majority. I'd take anything before a steroid of any kind, because I've been there and suffered the consequences. I sincerely hope you do well and have no long-term side effects.

Ok so I got the Uceris. For now I will take it while I get approval for remicade. I had the option of going into the hospital but I chose not too and see if the Uceris works first. I will go in for a colonoscopy next week to see how bad off I am. My MRCP on my liver was not totally conclusive so he wants to do an ercp in the next 6 months. My GI is very aggressive. His stance is hit it hard and then downgrade once it is in control as opposed to start slow and build up to stronger meds

I've tried Remicade and I'm currently on Uceris. I would probably try the Uceris first and see what the scope shows.

Hi everyone.I found this post when doing research on Remicade and Uceris. I am currently in the same boat where my doctor wants me to start Remicade but I would like to seek other options. I see here everyone says Uceris and one of you was just starting it (abet years ago). Did it end up working? Where there any side effects? Hope some of you might still be out there and can give some feedback. Thanks!

Uceris is not a long-term solution because it's a steroid. Remicade is a long-term solution. Uceris might work for mild inflammation. If you have moderate to severe inflammation i would skip the uceris and go straight to remi.

My GI wanted me on Entyvio for moderate UC. I opted (insisted) on Uceris. Bottoms up, rather than top down for me. Starting with the strongest med first makes it tougher on the patient and easier for the physician, IMHO.
Three months of Budesonide, which I'm now weaning off, plus Rowasa enemas and 4 Lialda a day....and I'm close to full remission.
Good luck to you.

Uceris is only good for treating mild to slightly moderate inflammation. If they're talking remicade for you, then you likely have moderate to severe inflammation. I've been on remicade for 7+ years, no side effects, and have achieved and sustained a remisison thanks to it. Been pretty stable since, with only a few minor blips along the way.

I agree, if you under-treat moderate-severe inflammation, it prolongs the misery of having a flare. I just came out of a 3 year flare while we worked from the mildest to the strongest medication. Wish we would have gone straight to biologics; instead i ended up with osteoporosis in my spine after 2 years on steroids while we wasted time with weaker drugs including uceris. I remember being shocked when the dr told me i needed remicade because i didn't think my situation was "that bad". But it turns out this was really the right thing and i wish i could have started it earlier.
