Quincy-- since you asked about biopsy report: it came back free of inflammation, granulomas, & dysplasia. Yay! The lone problem gastro had observed was internal hemmies "grade II". Quincy-- some ?s have arisen since my health insurance put scope bills online. Have follow-up office visit with gastro Monday so I hope to get answers! For example, gastro's procedure report said 4 biopsies were taken every 10 cm. from the entire colon. But now I see that the pathologist did not report any tissue sample at all from 20 cm. location!!!!!!! (His report skips from 10 cm. to 30 cm.) THEN wait 'til you hear this: the nurse-anesthetist's bill reports "administration of prophylactic parenteral antibiotic"! WTH????? If they slipped abx into my IV w/o any notice I'm really going to blast them. Quincy-- Gastro says no abx were put into my IV & how that got onto nurse-anesthetist's bill is unanswerable right now. However, the pathologist's report will definitely be investigated. I am so irritated by that endoscopy center! Not only do they knock out c-scope patients routinely these days with total anesthesia, but they then mess with the data reporting as well, or so it seems. I wish my gastro had never affiliated there! On the other hand, I know that my dentist, a longtime Crohn's patient, already had grief at the medical center where he gets endoscopy RE scope anesthesia requirement back in 2006. Quincy, 1 major thing that galls me about this medical center: nowhere on their large Website can a patient find out WHO RUNS THEIR ENDOSCOPY CENTER! Can you believe that? Why is it kept from the public domain? I proposed to my stalwart gastro that I'd write a complaint about mandatory Propofol to the head of the endoscopy center. Gastro replied: "All that would come from such a complaint would be his yelling at ME! Please talk to my patient services coordinator." So I did; this is a very helpful & simpatico person. She directed me to his homepage, which does NOT mention the endoscopy center! Turns out he received the MD in Belgium in 1994, then came to U.S. & worked at 1 Midwestern & 1 Southern university before being hired to present position in 2011. He is a gastro/researcher subspecializing in liver-pancreas issues. (Which, IMHO, means he should NOT be deciding what IBD patients get at scopes!) Grrrrrrrrr. Quincy, I think my gastro has mixed feelings about scope sedation-- ever since finding a flat-lesion malignancy during c-scope on a 31 yr-old guy in UC remission, who had no symptoms whatsoever. In that situation the doctors would rather not have patient viewing the monitor. They DO have a larger picture than any individual layperson of what CAN happen during scoping, and one can't fault them for that. I'm mainly ticked off at the urban medical centers for making what should be a low-key process into a prep for hospital admission-- because they prefer to keep their beds full & staff occupied. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
