Two year plan to stop 6MP

Last week I had a GI appt and I asked him if I can ever stop 6MP. I am currently in clinical remission and started the 6MP process back in September I believe. My doctor told me at two years of clinical remission (if I'm still in it then) we can do a colonoscopy and if the colon doesn't show inflammation I can try stopping it, but only 50% of people are successful. Anyone have success stories of coming off 6MP?

sorry to be a debbie downer mad, but with all the shiitt you're currently dealing with, it seems like the 6 aint exactly doin good things for you ?

Just make sure you continue taking the Lialda if it ever gets to the point where you decide to stop the 6MP.

I don't think stopping would work for me. I had such a hard time getting into remission, I don't want to end up stopping and getting back into a flare up that is completely uncontrollable. I had to see a hematologist almost weekly weekly when I started 6mp because of my blood counts bouncing up and down. It was really stressful. Not sure I could go through all that again. I would love to stop but 25mg is a small dose, I figure, I am better off on it and able to go to work and be independent. Luckily I had great insurance at the time I started 6mp, I am uninsured now.

Thanks, Gary. I'm consistent with Lialda, but now with Canasa.

Notsosickly, how are you handling meds now w/o insurance?

I am doing OK. I buy things from India or Canada. It's cheaper than paying for insurance. I should have insurance soon so it's not too worrisome hopefully.
