Update- came out of colonoscopy expecting to go home but didn't happen

Hi everyone found out that I didn't have any problems with my gallbladder or liver so that was good :) what I did find out was my left hand side ulcerative colitis had now gone ALL the way around my large intestine so much so they said it was the worst they had ever seen and that I was edging on toxic megacolon and I wasn't going home:(
They had warned me that I may need emergency surgery if I didn't respond to the meds fast. This became a very scared time.

9 days later I am home :)

I have been on some high doses of meds

4 grams of mesalazine
Flatly tablets max
2 IV antibiotics
100 mg IV steroids
Morphine
Oxycodiine
Trauma dole
Panadol
Buscopan.

Nice little drug mixture

The doctor couldn't understand why my bio chemistry wasn't showing up how severe my insides where. All the doctors couldn't believe how I looked so well, they said I should have been a very very sick girl.

So now I,m just waiting to see how I recover from this upset and should I now look at having my bowel removed after 13 years of uc and it moving along all the bowel

wow.... scary for sure? what is the plan? rescope you? new meds? imuran with steroids? remicade? or direct surgery consult?

im surprised they let you go home, i'm not as bad yet they wont let me go until improvement is certain...

Are you still in the hospital?

And what options are they giving you?

That's what is very frustrating about UC. Many or us look fine when we are in great distress and doctors don't really take seriously what we tell is happening. They must be trained in med school to ONLY trust biopsies or blood tests. But blood tests don't always tell the whole story: You report your bio-chemistry looked fine but after your scope your docs say you were dangerously inflammed.

Glad you are out of hospital intact and hope you can get your inflammation under control.

I am sorry you had to go through all that. Its great that you are finally home. Hopefully, you'll start feeling better and won't need surgery. When do you have to have a follow up?

Holy crap. It's good news that liver/gallbladder, etc isn't an issue. But sure scary about the toxic megacolon.

Yep, you're sure on an interesting dosage of pain meds..

It's very normal for some of us to not have blood tests reveal the amount of inflammation in the colon...as well as the symptoms that visually reveal.
At least you know that and can push when they rely on the blood tests in the future.

When do you have to go back to see your doc and what will you be doing to be monitored regarding the megacolon issue?

Hope things level out for you and that your colon responds...

Stay on 4 grams mesalazine
Tar gain
Panadol
Azathioprine 150 mg
Prednisone 75 mg

This is all from today for a 2 week period then I am to go back on the 17 may and see the registra doctor at the hospital and they will change medications at that time.. They said if necessary they will do a bottom end scope to check on inflammation at this time if I am still having problems.
They said at anytime if I am having problems to go to the er.

My question is Will all these meds work?
Does there come a time when the meds will not work anymore cause I have been on the same for so long and just have to get put on higher and higher doses each time ????
