For those who do mesalamine enemas every night, and don't taper, where do you go when you have flare symptoms? Twice a day? Steroid enemas?

I'm tempted to reduce, but I'm doing so well nightly. Not one problem.

My flare hit while I was on 4g nightly Rowasa enemas and 4.8g Lialda in Jan 2013. Pretty much my only choice was to go on pred. I think the meslamine meds just aren't enough for me anymore, I was on the maximum dose of both the enema and oral pills. Based on the severity of the inflammation my GI had me go on 6mp as well.

I go to twice a day. I do one after things calm down in the morning and try to lie on my side for a few minutes before I leave the house. I've been doing almost nightly enemas for 6 years so it might be easier for me to retain them.

I'm missing something. You're back on enemas nightly...for how long?

You've tapered in the past...if you're doing really well now, go to every second night.

Nightly enemas for 2.5 years (yup , never missed a night). UC still had the nerve to flair up w/ this recently and am now using Cortenemas at night and Rowasa in the day. I have also added anucort in the am (in the past) and also Cortifoam in the am (in the past). This flair was a doozy...came w/ alot of pain, which was the first time that happened to me. I hate this effin disease so much. I would keep using them nightly if you are doing well w/ it and not change a winning formula. Than, just hope for the best.
