Rectal Bleeding? Possible Fissure. How much is too much?

sorry to have so many questions I am still very new to this

Okay so I have been really struggling with constipation since my Colonoscopy and subsequent MRI (had to drink contrast) and I think I may have had nearly an impaction but was so miserable I pushed unil it came out. Hard as cement and very large. As soon as it came out  started pouring blood.So anyway it has been about 30 minutes and I am still having bright red blood about a teaspoon at a time. I think it is probally a fissure but I don't know. How long should I ignore the bleeding if it continues? And will i need to wait fo it to heal before i use Cortifoam again? Any advise? Also I am on sulfasalizie so maybe that is why I am seeing o much blood?

You could take a look (squatting over a mirror) to see if it is a fissure. It could also be a ruptured hemmie.

The tramadol will also make you constipated.

I don't think it's the sulfasalazide...but since you aren't on any rectal meds, I'd think starting them now is a good thing.

Are you taking any fibre supplements to help bulk the stool?

How are you eating/drinking?

I am on cortifoam (about two weeks now) but I also started Iron i am supposeto take it twice a day but I am only taking it once a day because of constipation. I did take some magnesium twice yesterday to see if I could move something.
Fiber for some reason seems to make my UC symptoms worse and I am having trouble drinking water because if I drink more than about 3 oz of any fluid I get major nausea don't know why Thinking about taking miralax. It usally helps my constipation but I have a feeling I am not going to be able to take Iron at all.which I am not happy about because I feel so much better on it. My diet sucks because I am only able to eat soft foods like bread and eggs (meat I cannot even tolerate) plus I often have blood in my stool so I know my Iron stays low. Just another one of those complications uggg. I did see some posts about vitamin C. definately trying that

What fibre did you use? when and how much?

yes, additional vitamin C can loosen stools. I used to use a vitamin C powder before bedtime..lol..

I have tried several otc fiber supplements but have also tried fiberone bars, cereal etc. which worked to move my bowels but caused bad abdominal pain and triggered my UC. Years ago I used castor oil pills and that was about the only thing that would move my bowels sometimes but I am afraid to even try it now with the UC because it does cause cramping even without UC. My new GI has advised me not to take Reglan anymore (my old GI prescribed it when I had a fecal impaction) But honestly I think I need it sometimes when I get like this.It sure beats pushing out an impaction and damaging the rectum in the process.

yeah, I wouldn't suggest fibre bars or cereals. have you tried the Metamucil capsules?

Use some magnesium citrate. And sip constantly on water. Don't drink a lot at once. I'd stay away from fiber until you get more hydrated.

not metamucil brand but fiber caps before I got diagnoised the doctor thought I had IBS and they kept advising me "more fiber" "more fiber" they crammed it down my throat but I did not start to have improvement in my symptoms until I stopped adding fiber to my diet. Still if I eat a food that is naturally high in fiber I have an abrupt increase in my UC symptoms. I also have a motility problem that is neurological. The travel time for anything I eat is always several days that is why I do not have luck with the the preps for colonoscopy

I don't eat a lot of high fibre foods, but do take the psyllium capsules. All fibre is different, and will have different effects on digestion, stool consistencies, etc.

Have you not done any of the gallon preps? I can't see not eating for a few days before doing the prep as a good thing...

I would just like to say that a fissure is very painful as far as I know. I've never heard of anyone having a fissure without pain, someone please correct me if I am wrong. I have a fissure that comes and goes, I actually has 2 at once in the past, it felt like I was passing blades. It's one of the worst pains and it hurts after going for quite a while. It's like hell when you're going and sore afterwards. Did you experience intense pain?

yea not so sickly girl I did have pain when it happened it felt like my rectom was being gashed open. And it is still burning and hurting.
Quincy I have done the gallon prep twice. The first time it did not clean me out so I had to go back a wek later and try again. The second time I started vomitting and could not finish the prep. The GI I ha then wrote a prescription for pills to take an that did work for me but I started it 3 days before the colonoscopy. That was when I was diagnoid with UC because it was the first time my GI could actually see well enough to diagnoise. Most of the time I just get a flex sig for now that is enough because my inflamation is jut in the colon but I don't know what I will do when i need a new colonoscopy. I am praying by then there will be new ways to prep. Guess I'll cross that bridge when i get thee.

I've heard that Pico Salex is one to try. I don't know if it's in the US, however.

I have a fissure, and it doesn't always hurt, but mind is very small.

The external hemmie, however...hurts a lot when it flares. And, that fissure always loves to come to the party as well, so I think that's when it hurts me the most.
