Study suggests -Time to give up the booze and red meat

Most of us have had to moderate our diet one way or another.
But red meat and alcohol seem to be big triggers "setting off the inflammatory process"

And yet... my gut looooves red meat. It also loves chicken. But as much as I personally love seafood my gut has turned against it. I had fresh fish with a few shrimp last night and this morning my gut set about removing it all as punishment.

I was a vegetarian when I got UC and had to become a meat eater again. You know that smug face that Garfield the cat gets? That's what my gut feels like after a NY strip. Total happiness.
Yes I know all the studies about red meat and cancer and inflammation. But the gut rules.

i was a vegan when i got dx'd -

i eat meat almost everyday and have for the last 5 years -

i have almost zero symptoms from uc -

think i'll stick with joanna and ima and keep eating a crap load of meat - for now anyway -

find me a good gluten-free beer and i'll hammer some of that down too -

 

what giving up spare ribs, hamburgers, filet mignon, t bones..... you's crazy. no fing way

I stick to green smoothies, fresh fruit and veg and fish. Also trying gluten free to see if it makes a difference.

I'm the opposite to many people in this thread: I ate a crapton of red meat in the years before diagnosis and a lot afterwards, too. It obviously didn't do my gut any good. You could argue about animal protein until the cows come home: Paleos are obviously gonna think it's the best thing ever. I see nothing wrong with red meat in moderation, but I don't think it's especially healthy eaten to excess.

My gut also loves red meat. It seems a good steak gives me great poops the next day. Too bad I can't afford to eat steak every day! :)

Steaks do well for me too. I wonder if it all boils down to which bacterias in your intestines proliferate more depending on what you eat. Some of us are too low on certain good bacterias and when we eat particular foods it helps replenish some of the bacterias that we are low on. Since everyone is different in this category then some of us would benefit from eating meat and others would benefit more from eating other things. If this were actually true then at some point in the future we could get analyzed for which particular bacterias we were low on and a diet could be matched to each individual based on the results.
