Is it really ulcerative collitis or tuberculosis?

In January 2013, my wife had consulted GI, for cramps and blood in stool and with haemoglobin 7.1.GI recommended colonscopy and did biopsy test too and detected ulcerative colitis. He prescribed VSL#3(1-0-0) and Coolgut(1-1-1).

After 2weeks, it showed few improvements on bowel sides but her health became very weak and GI specified that its result of nutrient deficiency and she was hydrated accordingly for 2 days in hospital. She recoverd gradually with few cramps in her knees,calf and stomach which use to pick-up during her M-cycles.

We continued the same priscription as told. In a mean time we relocated to other city.

Since last week(7th May 2013), she has been getting minor flare-ups and cramps as usual but one change seen was blood with clot and fresh blood too with hermoriods kind of tissue coming outside.

So this time are GI was changed due to relocation, and the new GI, on seeing the reports, says the last tests/treatment is incompletely done and needs to do colonscopy again and suspects that it could be either of three - ulcerative colitis, tuberculosis or some infection.

This has confused us a lot! Now, we needed forums support to know should we follow the new GI's recommendation or not.

It can take a long time, months to a year or more- to get a proper diagnosis. Be vigilant in seeking treatment and ask a lot of questions of board members.

Finally, she went ahead with c-scope and result seems positive to UC only with few reddish patches and fewer-smaller white patches scattered across almost the whole intestine. As per GI its a moderate stage and her intestine has become dryish or so and somehow they get scratched due to the food stuff resulting in reddish patches like in skin disease.(In Jan's c-sope the ulcers where located mostly on the left side and till half traverse of intestine)
We have to wait for 6 more days till biopsy report come and then GI would be able to start the treatment.

Currently, GI has prescribed mesacol(800mg) instead of coolgut(1.2gm) thrice daily after meals with no rectal meds. she's also taking vetgut(probiotic and prebiotic) and one more antibiotic(for infection if any in stomach- i am unable to recall the name of the drug will post it later).

Also, she has been low on haemoglobin(GI has recommended on serum iron test) and does get tired occasionally and diet has been less since too. Fortunately, she has enough strength to be able to do basic and daily chores on her own.
