Vancomycin Taper For C. Diff infection

I'm on the once every 3 days part of the taper, taking my dose yesterday. After about two weeks of everything being pretty close to normal, today the D is back. I'm thinking(hoping) it was yesterdays dose, but really can't say for certain.

Has anyone else experienced this while tapering Vancomycin?

vanco can flare up your UC so that could be the problem- or the c diff is coming back. I didn't have a vanco taper (my doc doesn't believe in doing that) but I got c diff soon after I stopped my first round of vanco for c diff.

how long have you been on it?

this is actually my third course. I was on flagyl for 10 days then vancomycin for 10 and now the taper.

things have been so greater for the past couple of weeks, I really thought I had it beat :(

Are you taking any probiotics as you phase out the antibiotic? I attended a couple medical lectures on C.diff treatment recently where each gastroenterologist said that s. boulardi & lactobaccillus GG can help to get rid of the persistent bugger. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

i have been taking the vsl3 two packets a day. this along with the taper seems to have done the trick for me this time. the last two courses of ab got me well for about a week at a time, then i relapsed.

things were ok today so im hoping it was just the vancomycin dose that caused me a little trouble.

c diff is impervious to probiotics- no matter which kind i take. I've been on 6 sacchar. boulardiis a day and 3 culturelles a day since February and still c diff comes back. a nasty bug, she is!

sorry to hear it ban. it has been a long struggle for me so far. my doctor does fecal transplant therapy, so that is on the agenda next if this taper doesn't do the trick. so far so good.
