Normal bowel movement A LOT of blood, felt blocked

Okay woke up this morning, with a bad stomach cramp.
When straight to the toilet, felt so bad. I knew I had to go but couldn't for a while.

Then I went, the bowel movement was pretty normal (except the fact that there was alot of poop) but alotttttt of blood
Some mucus came out aswell if that helps
This is one of the worst pains I've experienced

I ate pizza last night! And had soft drink


I'm on 30mgs of pred
150mg imuran
2.4 mezevant, day and night (mesalamine)

How were you feeling prior to this morning? Some people do not tolerate pizza well. Bleeding could be from a hemi. You said this is one of the worst pains you have experienced, do you mean the stomach cramps or rectal pain?

Stomach cramps definitely! Don't think it's a Hemmie could it be ulcers I'm so confused.

Pizza is high in histamines. It has been proven that many with UC lack the proper amount of the digestive enzyme DAO which breaks down dietary histamines, effectively causing a histamine overdose and your symptoms. There are also other foods and drinks which are high in histamines. Since taking the digestive enzyme DAO, which I buy from Swanson, before meals I have been able to eat high histamine foods again. In fact, just the other day I had some pan pizza with pepperoni and sausage. I doubled up my dose of DAO before eating and had a much better night than I normally do. Unfortunately it doesn't cure UC but it can turn foods which make you miserable into foods which you can once again eat and enjoy.

Garryloiusville..... I am curious about DAO. Can you tell me about side effects, drug interactions, dosage. Is it ok to take with other health problems such as low blood sugar and low blood pressure?

Recently solid stools have been causing me much more pain, and I have noticed that bleeding increases after these BMs as well. Whether or not it's normal....I have no idea....but you aren't the only one!

Yeah its normal for UC. I wouldnt overanalyze your poop. Anything can come out of your butt with this disease. If you are inflamed, bleeding can be a part of it.

doc told me to start the steriod enemas :(

UCandMe: DAO is a normal digestive enzyme in everyone's bodies, although it has been proven to be at a much lower level in patients with UC. It is responsible for breaking up dietary histamines in the body and if you don't have enough and have a high imbalance of histamine then you can experience allergic type reactions, including worsening UC symptoms. As far as I know there are absolutely zero side effects. There is a recommended dosage on the bottle but I watched a video on it from a doctor who said you could theoretically take the whole bottle at once with no problems. DAO's main function is to break down dietary histamines so you want to make sure you have enough DAO in your body to counter the amount of histamine in your diet. I usually take two capsules at every meal but when I know I am eating higher histamine foods (such as pizza the other day) I take more, in that case I took 4. As far as I know it does not have any drug interactions at all and will not effect other health conditions. According to the video taking too much does absolutely no harm but it only has benefit up to the dietary histamine level which is in your body. If your histamine level is at X and you take XXX the extra is just a waste and has no benefit.

what brand is the DAO? what does it stand for, not sure what to search up..

DAO stands for Diamine oxidase. I order mine online from Swanson. There is another product called Histame which also has DAO in it but it also has an extra ingredient and is slightly more expensive. Whenever I used to eat high histamine foods I would have bloody diarrhea 15-20 times just over the next few hours and since taking this before meals I have now been able to eat those same foods and have a better night than normal. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to cure UC at all but it does allow me to eat the foods that I used to have to avoid without the excess bathroom trips. It is a very good idea to form a list of high histamine foods so you have a better idea of when it is most needed.
