Had a look at the website for the company that make this drug, it's very interesting stuff based around 'restarting' peoples immune systems and therefore removing the underlying cause of the disease.

I never know how to take info like this, obviously it would be a miracle beyond belief if they found a cure, wait and see I guess...

I'm sure we'll find out more about it. But if it works for CD, it should work for every autoimmune disease..?

Fascinating. I always hate the fact that nobody anywhere seems to even try finding a cure or cause of the disease, instead just finding drugs to treat the symptoms only. Hopefully this has huge promise.

I hope I'm wrong but I seriously believe that most of the research they do is in finding ways to treat the inflammation, which is the result of the disease, not the cause. Every new treatment that ever comes out is aimed at treating inflammation. That's why they never seem to get anywhere other than treating the symptoms.

I've been following this SSI for a while now and it is amazing. They are getting ready to start the trials now. I was going to apply but it's only open to Canadians for the time being.

And how often does the doctor in charge go to the forums and comment? I thought that was very cool. His PR person is also answering questions on the process at crohnsforum.com. (I guess it's OK to discuss other IBD forums here?)

I've got to agree with you Gary. These gigantic pharma companies are set up to make huge profits and that is why we see a far stronger focus on treating symptoms.

There hasn't been a major cure found since polio in the 50s. I think most people agree that way to much energy is put into treating a disease instead of curing it.

With all the advancements in technology and medicine I find it alarming that we haven't cured anything major since polio.

Upon further reading on their website it states 4 out of 10 had lasting remission... So this is somewhat good, 40% I guess but it appears that not all continued in remission, with only one person that seems to have lasted 3 years and continuing... So technically this is a very, very small response to the treatment.

Will be interesting to see the results of their new trial though. Perhaps a controlled study will produce better results somehow.

Still though... What if...

It's very cool.

Also maybe they have tried it in more people without formally tracking and recording it. Would be great to hear from the others patients for a follow-up of current symptoms.

@ Canadamark: maybe the 4/10 would be bumped way up if combined with diet/other meds. Besides crohn's is different to UC. Still, i expected a bit more like 9/10 response, i mean they are resetting the immune system i mean seriously this HAS to work.

This looks good, I checked the video, checked their site, I'll try to push to be on the trial.

Then I'll make a success story.. lol

-I was on the SCD diet, I was miserable, then I found SSI!! *ta-na-na* My SCD went away!

I wrote this very f.... thing thing in my hormones thread. Bone marrow transplant to reset the system. People were like ...meh...

Now, what do we see? A drug to reset the immune system.

This is really great news if it's true, I really hope this is the cure and they release the drug soon. 3 years would be great, I'd been in my last year of university then.
