On and off for the past few years I've been having sporadic bouts of burning yellow/greenish liquid when I go to the bathroom, plus pale stool. I was told that its possibly gallbladder spasms. I've told my GI about it but he didn't seem too concerned. Just told me to keep an eye on it.

But lately I'm starting to get right sided pain higher up after eating. Then this morning I had green gassy foam. Like I said, this is really random. But at what point should I be concerned? I have an appt with my GI next week so I plan on bringing it up to him again.

I think gallbladder issues become a problem when you get pancreatitis from it, for example, or have extreme pain. You can try a low fat diet to see if that relieves some of the issues. I would talk to the GI about it at your appointment and at least ask for a HIDA scan and abdominal u/s. If you are scheduled for an endoscopy anytime soon they can do a better u/s of the gallbladder that way.

Just FYI - the HIDA scan was absolutely miserable for my sacroilietis. You have to lie on your back, still, for at least an hour. Awful.

Bile, gallbladder, bile-duct and liver related problems go hand in hand with UC and IBS.

From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_sclerosing_cholangitis#Related_diseases:
"PSC [primary sclerosing cholangitis] has a significant association with ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease primarily affecting the large intestine. As many as 5% of patients with ulcerative colitis may progress to develop primary sclerosing cholangitis and approximately 70% of people with primary sclerosing cholangitis have ulcerative colitis."

Also; bile-resistant and bile-acid consuming pathogenic bacteria have been associated with UC. I will create a new topic about this later today. :-)

Gall bladder will let you know when there is a problem,sounds like it might be starting.
Once mine got full blown clogged with stones,the pain was exquisite,ultra sound showed it looked like
a bean bag.  Pain was so bad vomited which relieved it,thought I was having a heart attack.

I usually stay away from doc's, but ran to the surgeon ,and said take this dam thing out.

The lighter stools could be from passing through quickly.

The green foamy stuff, I don't think it's bile, but it is possible you've picked up something during your travels?

Unless you had something bluish or purple yesterday like a slushy or berries?

I would suggest you quickly get to the doc and get stool samples checked anyway, especially since you're having right sided discomfort.

While it might be liver-related or gall-bladder related, checking for some invader would be my first guess if you've been having bms that are a bit more quick with some frequency.

I always have urgency to some degree. But I'm in remission from my UC, it's from my other gut issues. I also don't think it's from my travels because I would get it randomly (the green foam) in the winter and I don't travel in the winter. Overall I feel fine, no fever or nausea. Just the random bouts of acidic D and the green gassy foam stuff. The high right sided pain is new for me though. That started mildly when I was on vacation.

Can you associate the green color/right side pain with any meal or food item? (Maybe something you resumed eating since Remi that you had given up for a good while?) In any case, good that you have an upcoming office visit where you can ask gastro about it. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I can't really think of anything that I eat differently. My diet is pretty much the same. Even on vacation, we made our own meals in the mansion. However I did notice the pain a little bit after we had tacos. I've eaten tacos in the past with no issue. Oh and I just remembered, the morning after we ate the tacos my gut felt weird but I chalked it up to the higher elevation.

I the pain/discomfort continual?

Does the Bentyl help?

Definitely push the doc for further testing to get that part resolved...I'm sure he'll do a few panels of bloods.

For whatever this story may be worth: I ran into a former colleague recently who told me she has been getting stomach pains since taking Rx Cipro last yr for a non-digestive problem. She is in early 50s & otherwise never experienced gastrointestinal issues. Said she discussed the pain with a gastro generalist who skirted the Rx issue! / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
