Just wanted to introduce myself

I was diagnosed with mild to moderate UC in September of 2009, though right now it feels neither mild nor moderate. I was in remission up until the middle of May of this year. I never realized how good I was feeling until now, back to 15-20 BM's a day. This is my first flare and it was brought on by loss of insurance which caused me to switch from Asacol HD to Sulfasalizine. My body was doing great and now, hell. Doc put me on Apriso 5 days ago so I will give it 2 weeks and see what happens.

I found this site by chance a few weeks ago and thought it was about time to come out of the shadows. This forum has ben a wealth of information. I have learned more in a month on this site than 3+ years of asking my doctor questions.

I am relatively new here myself...I feel your pain. I am taking 8 tabs of Sulfasalizine a day and it's pretty hard on my system. I need to drink like an ocean of water just to stay hydrated..My Doc was supposed to call in a new script for me, Colazal, this past Friday but forgot to do so...I hope apriso works for you.
I've had UC for over 40 years. When I first got it only Asulfidine and steroids were offered to me as treatment.

If you responded well to asacol a Doc will probably try you on mesalamine enemas for remission (aka rowasa etc). Same chemical, just more of it. At one point when I had no insurance I got a doc to write a script and paid for the stuff full price. Expensive but if it works you may be able to stop and go back to pills after a while.

Though I should add enemas work best if the disease is confined to the lower part of the colon.
