Sorry to be so off topic, but I know there are good admins here--I posted something on another forum for my web site, but now I want the post removed because the thread post is showing up high on google rankings for my web site. I asked the admin kindly to remove it and explained the reason, but he refuses and says it's their policy to not remove it. Any ideas? Pretend I'm underage, etc.? I don't usually lie but it's ridiculous and would be very simple for him to remove it. It does not have any replies.

If its something you posted I always thought you could remove your own post or at the very least edit it.

I did too, but not on this one :( It's no big deal, but it's just that he was kinda smart by replying "what goes on the web stays on the web" when he could probably make one click--kinda frustrated me.

Are you absolutely sure you can't edit it? If you made the topic, then you can't delete your first post - only subsequent ones. You can edit the post content/title though.

Check that out. Click on the pencil icon.

I've never had that issue on another forum (not like I've been on many or anything), but have you tried telling him your reasons in detail?

It's a search engine optimization thing (think of ranking high in Google) and also it takes time and money to remove the link that you made.

Ask nicely but if that doesn't work then sometimes they charge money to remove the links (sort of an extortion racket) maybe you can ask them how much it would cost to remove...this has been going on for the 18 months because of some changes that Google made to their search engine.

If you put a 2nd post in that thread "saying that you are the author and you'd like the post removed" then Google may devalue it and push it down to page 2 or 3 for when people search for your site.

There are other options if you want to go to War with them but I'd try the above options first (its a lot easier) but if that doesn't work then post back here and I'll try to help.

Also setup a Facebook, Linkedin, Pinterest, Twitter, Google Plus, YouTube, Vimeo and a couple of directories or other well-known accounts that are relevant for your webpage, they will probably out rank that forum pretty fast (especially if you add some content to the other pages) and it will push the forum off the first page of Google.

Also if you have Google Webmasters' tools setup for your website then you can submit the forum post to the Disavow Tool and "MAYBE" Google will remove it from your rankings. Submit the post's URL....some people do not recommend this because it could affect your website's rankings. I'm not sure if this will work but technically it should according to Google. www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main

Wow thanks so much!! I'm new to the SEO thing, and I've been trying to think of other sites to boost it. I now have Facebook, Pinterest, and Linked in. It was basically an SEO help forum, so I don't want my customers to necessarily see my SEO questions when they search for my site.

Being an SEO forum would definitely explain their response.

If you are trying to SEO your website then don't use the disavow tool for the SEO forum post it would be a very big mistake.... Google doesn't like people to SEO their websites (it's against Google's terms of service) and you're basically telling google that you are trying to find out information about how to SEO your site.

I'd really offer them money to take the post down, it's probably your best alternative. You don't want Google to punish you for SEOing your site.

Then again, everyone SEO's their sites but just don't get caught doing it.

Thanks for all of the info. My site has had a slow start, but it is definitely getting more hits now...I figure partially due to it being in such a popular category. It may have picked up due to not focusing so much on SEO, because I've been busy adding content. I'll definitely be more careful in the future!

Lets end this thread before it gets even more off topic but if you want, you can email me and I'll take a look at your site and see if I can help you with some SEO stuff, lots of those people on the SEO forums have no clue what they are doing.

Just to keep this a little bit on topic, I have an appointment with my GI tomorrow but I'm thinking about canceling because my UC was bad today and I don't feel like driving anywhere. I take my 2nd dose of Simponi on Saturday, I think I'll feel better after the 2nd dose (I felt great my first week of starting Simponi, this week not so much). I partied a little too hard over the 4th of July weekend. ugh.

Maybe you can ask a mod to remove this off-topic thread :-)

Good luck with your UC! I'm not familiar with Simponi, but take care of yourself and I hope you find what's best for you. I do appreciate this forum whether on or off topic. :)
